What dics/pads do people recommend for the 8P S3?

I don't have the budget to upgrade callipers etc, just looking for some front disc replacements (grooved/drilled + ventilated)

Im not really convinced of the quality of EBC? and I was considering brembo pads.

Can you get AP racing discs and use them with standard callipers?

Cheers,

Ben

Mintex racing pads always look good.

I had Tarox Strada on my last car and they were awesome.
Also I never heard bad reviews on Pagid pads or Ferodo.

I have no idea which ones you can get for the S3 but id go for any of them.

I agree, EBC discs are ok, but I hate stuffpads.

I'm never a fan of drilled discs. I know it's fairly rare but they can crack.
For peace of mind i'll be going dimpled/grooved rather than drilled.
The difference in surface over going dimpled over drilled isn't massive.

Yeh ive seen the potential cracking issues, but you have to admit they do look good lookswise. I love the AP racing 'C' shape grooves.

That they do!
I know companies like CRN you can get the disc machined to whatever pattern you want, j hooks, alcon c grooves etc.

anyone got any experience of the brembo discs?

If you want that or any other brake info, drop DaveB1970 a line.

I would steer clear of EBC personally as I tried their RedStuff pads and found them to be pretty worthless over the stock pads.

My current setup is a VWRacing and AP hybrid with 6pot calipers ,Mintex 1155 pads and AP rotors.
The 1155 pads may be a bit much for your needs but the 1144s may be OK.

I don't think there's much to be gained messing around with the stock system and would advise saving for a good kit.

I'm running EBC Yellowstuff and have no complaints.
Minimal dust, no noise, much more bite over OEM, pretty good heat tolerance (I've done two track days with them and were not disappointed).

Alternatively, Ferodo DS2500 is a pretty common pad upgrade for S3 owners although they can be a little noisy for some people.
I've driven with these on an R32 and was very impressed with the bite.
I'll be swapping my Yellowstuff for these when the time comes.

I'm using Tarox F2000 (grooved) disks with Freodo DS2500 pads. They are excelent for street use.
However, the pads squeek quite bad, especialy when I'm brakin easy, close to stop. When braking hard they don't make any noise.
And they are dusty.

Agree with the dust comments re the DS2500s but mine never squealed.

The EBC pads on the other hand squealed like pigs and I've already said what I thought of the braking.

I think that you have to find what suits you and still stops the car.

I found the 2500s stopped the car but had little feel and progression whereas the Mintex1155s are much better but are not strictly road use pads.
