hi all, my heater fan seems to have packed up, the bars go up and down on the climatronic but the fans not blowing any air

any ideas anyone?

thanks

Have it scanned with VCDS.

The fact that its not blowing any air when its cold could be a selector flap that is not moving when it should be.

Similar problem in my old A3 8L turned out to be the thermostat... probably worth scanning first or if you don't have access to vagcom start small and go for the thermostat!

As said, does the car temp show its warmed up properly ?
Does it blow hot air if you rev it a lot, or on motoroway etc.

Either hot coolant isnt getting to the matrix, or the control isnt allowing the hot air through.

Where you based Timontour, one of us kind people will scan your car with VCDS if you don't have it.

Tim, if the bars on the display are moving up and down, you should clearly hear the fan spinning. If there is no noise from the fan, then suggest that the fan motor has quit. If you can hear the fan, and there is no air coming out, then the flaps are suspect. A scan would help.

heres the vag com scan, looks like the motor has gone?

If you cant hear the fan motor in the passenger footwell then the fan unit has gone, hence why the bars up/down are not making difference & according to that log it is this, so its either got no power or its ******** & needs changing.

Depends where you are, but I can source a new one & replace.

thanks NHN, i cleared the fault on vcds and spoke to my local mechanic he suggested that it might just have a leaf or debris jammed in it and the bang on under the glove box so i cleared the fault ond gave it a thump vola its now working? nut it may be a sign of things to come? any idea on the cost of a new motor?

I've got the same problem and I have the same fault code as I've just quoted. What is needed for this a new fan motor or blower motor? are they the same thing?

You need a new fan/blower motor.

You guys starting to suffer from the same issue as us B5 owners, where the brushes wear out and the copper end of the motor wears down?

Yeap its the same issue completely as I've stripped some down to research/investigate, not worth even trying to replace parts just the whole unit I found.

Depends on cost and how handy people are with the required tools.

I've replaced mine cause it was cheaper and not a big job really, since you got to the unit out any way.

Once the fan unit it self is warn away I will have to replace it all.

How much is a new fun unit?

I took out my blower motor today, should the "hamster cage" spin? mine doesn't move, any reason for this?

If it doesn't manually spin then its goosed more than likely, replace for new one.
