finaly got around to booking my car in for a remap 2 years of 150bhp i had the rope ready to hang myself ! stage 2 on the 26th ys yes oh yay

only thing i find odd is they map everything on v-power or similar
been told to raise the car and lose the ebay dump valve for a standard one ....mehh

just eager now :)

Why is it odd that they ask you to run V Power? If you aren't going to continue to put V Power in it after mapping then make sure you tell Niki so he can provide you with a pussy tune to work around the fueling.

Of cause you will have to raise the car, otherwise you will lose your front bumper and sills getting on and off the rollers.

And of cause he will want you to get rid of the pony dump valve for one that works.

You best hope the car is tip top or you'll be disappointed like another recent member of the forum who didn't do the basic things asked when going for a remap.

On a brighter note though, good luck! If it is your first time at R Tech you are in for a great day, make sure to pop nextdoor to see Richard and Nail. If you are lucky you will see lots of rad cars.

And bring Hobnobs as sacrifice to the tuning gods haha.

Jardo's right! Rid of the eBay DV for an oem one. You should be running v-power anyhow, so make it a habit; make sure you have no leaks and raise the car.. All should be ok in that case.. Best of luck!!

Nice one Steve! im booked in the day before.
V power is where it at bud! Good luck

I don't really see why anyone wouldn't run V-power in a 1.8T, it's actually cheaper to run when you factor in the economy increase!

V-power typically costs 3-4% more than 95 unleaded, and economy typically rises by 6-10%. It's a no brainer.

i dont see the point in v-power as its not as if its a highly tuned car ive had other cars/non vag mapped on 95 as its just cheaper i live in central london so mpg doesent exist unless its 2am and the roads are clear also i use this car day in day out i dont mind v-power as im selling up in december or breaking etc im also not chasing numbers so 205-220 not alot of difference this car at this weight currenty 1120kg need to drop a little more out of it

but thanks im gonna do all they have advised to do my car actualy isnt that low but ill raise it anyhow as im changing suspension just about after the remap anyhow with some BC coilovers now that its all poly bushed

JAY we can race on the 27th lol

Doesnt matter if its highly tuned or not. Look on youtube for the latest fifth gear petrol test. They did it at Rtech with Niki and tested 99 against regular fuels on a Golf GTI and the results were surprising.

Higher octane fuel provides better knock control and therefore more timing can be added to increase power and torque... the ECU is fairly clever and can adapt timing advance based on the amount of timing pull it has to do to cope with due to poorer octane fuel...

Most tuners prefer to tune for higher octane fuel as this produces the best results and keeps the customer happy but have seen it loads of times where customers are one the dyno and the power isn't where it should be due to running 95ron...

If you run 95ron over 99ron fuel then you must expect your final power output to be less than what its ultimately capable of... how much less is subject to engine condition and various other factors..

If you are happy to run 95ron all the time then let Niki know and he can adjust the map to suit... running 99ron after mapping for 95ron though won't give you the power that you could have had as the timing and boost will have been dialled down to prevent engine damage...

Your choice at the end of the day but I would make sure Niki is aware of your choice and I am sure he will accommodate you... Bill gets this all the time with customers coming in for maps...

If you have an ebay DV then it will be leaking... std OE DV is a better valve and means you retain your performance

Any car that is too low to go on the dyno doesn't get dyno'd... its that simple... seen it loads of times with cars on coil overs that are dragging on the ground... if yours is that low then it needs raising prior to arrival otherwise it adds time to the booking slot... this affects bookings for the rest of the day...

Worst offenders are Ibizas lol.... they are mostly on coil overs and run 16" wheels ;P

Why even bother getting it mapped if you have no interest in making the most of it?

thanks tuffty yea i already asked about 95ron guy on phone not sure who said they only use99 ron if thats what this tuner prefers ill use it plus its actually only 8p a litre more than regular i actually tought it was about doubt that in difference

i bought the ebay diverter because the stock one was leaking and it helped from what i read the ebay ones got good reviews by everyone that had em

and yup my car is not actualy low im not a fan of it but i said ill raise it up even more just to be safe

and 16vkapp the point of getting it mapped is to increase the performace from what it is now 200 205 230bhp etc im not fussed but 150 is like a van ! ive not focused on the engine on this car yet as A iv been broke for a wile and B the chassis is what stood out as needing the most work off the go for me

we talking chocolate or regular hob-nobs....

End of the day its your car and if you want to run it on 95 then go for it, just know you wont get amazing figures,

Good luck and report back to us when you leave

This probably make me sound my age but what does yay mean???

Thanks tuffty I'm not down with the kids!

took my BAM to niki few weeks ago and he transformed it, mines always ran on Vpower, on coilovers so wound them up to get on rollers as above and makeing sure your running the correct basic mods pre tune is the bare mininim imo. Research is the key.

I'm fairly sure chocolate hobnobs are preferable chaps, so much nicer, and that's what the cupboard is full of already!

Steve: doing the chassis first then the power will definitely result in a better car at the end of it all, you'll have a quick and capable car, rather than a hand granade

I'm surprised you lasted 2 years on the stock map though! When I bought my last AUM daily I waited a whole 6 days before booking into R-tech, and even that was too long. haha

lol well for the first year it was just a run around wile i was building my swift so i didnt mind ....then a friend of mine finished his toyota starlet wich is about 400whp ! so i said to myself NO ! so my swift turnt into a looong haul beast project i have regular work again so that will progress i guesstimate lots of money and time as every other thing is a one

ill whip my tap mesure out and see were my car is sitting

ill take both hobnob varietys

Nice one Steve! im booked in the day before.

to save any issues just bought a forge james bond with avacado spring

My little clio Williams is fine on 95 Ron and was tuned that way out of factory but she comes more alive with higher octane fuel seems to love it if I had a v8 I would prefer to use the better quality fuel myself

Ahh well we use RON whereas the yanks use AKI Octane so 95 RON is the usual 91 AKI. I think it's RON octane x 0.95 = AKI octane rating. Yanks can get our 99 RON there which is 95aki I think. Stupid system if you ask me!

Hi guys, very interesting reading here. Im new to it all and planned to see the guys at R-Tech for a Stage 1 soon, but need to address some small details first. At the mo mines stock AUM with an old cone filter from a mate until i get my hands on an s2000 one... Reading this is making me want to change over to V Power - is it a simple case of just putting that in next time the tank's empty? (Sod's law i filled it with 95 yesterday :/)... Other than that i was thinking Forge TIP and 007P DV... anything else you guys suggest before going up there? (bit of a trek from S'oton so would like to do it only once!)... Going to give the R-Tech guys a ring this week...

Much to learn, you have.

Don't waste your money on a 007p; a working OE valve is good enough for an MRC RS4 and my most powerful K03s A3 so spending money on a 007p is just bling and potentially introducing a future fault. Do a search for "Interesting dump valve information" and all will be revealed.

Forge TIP is good; SFS Supersize TIP (purchased from Simon Colyer from Ecotech, tell him Jardo sent you) is better though.

What are you like for MOT's? Depending how friendly they are a downpipe and decat will cost you £80 new, and will unleash many many more torques and horse powers. As well as aiding low rpm/initial spool up and top end flow.

Just run the 95 down, neck with V Powahhhh and go for a good hoon. By the time you have done two tanks full you will be able to notice the difference, timing will be advanced and fuel economy will be up, EGT's down, all sorts of awesomeness.
