I was just asking to see if you'd experienced the cup holders in an the 8P A3 is all.
In the 8P the cup holder is beneath the armrest; a bit of a design error in my opinion as I like to use the armrest alot and store other bits and bats in the covered cup holder area beneath it. One of my biggest gripes with the BMW 118d M Sport I used to have was it's complete lack of storage (along with the s**t soundsystem), including cupholders.
Usually if I do a motorway drive I generally at some point like to drop into a services and get a Costa coffee or Starbucks and I always tend to have this stored in between my legs as I drive basically because putting in the 8P's cup holder is a bit awkward to get at when driving, also when I have used it there have been times when I have forgotton the drink is under the armrest and let it go cold.
For this reason I think that the cup holder position in the 8V is both well thought out and for me, will be fully utilised even though one of them will be occupied with the ashtray which I will use for storing coins and my house keys which I do in my current car.
Also both my wife and I do alot of training and martial arts so we like to have a bottle of juice or water to hand so this will also make storage better in my upcoming new car as there is nowhere to put these in my 8P. I also noticed that there are now bottle sized storage areas in the doors which there weren't before, though the Golf GT Sport I have owned previously had these, these too will be utilised.
My point is is that I think Audi have designed the 8V around what was missing from the 8P and where improvements could be made they have done them. Dont get me wrong I love the 8P interior but the 8V surpasses it in what in my opinion improves usabilty and practicality.
I also think the driving position in the 8V is more akin to an Audi TT and like how everything is within easy reach.
You raise some valid points Bob and if I were you I'd tap up your local salesman and get them to give you a demonstrator for the weekend as I did and see what you think. If your local one won't then get over to Huddersfield Audi if you're in that neck of the woods as they will sort you out with one.
Also I'd stop listening to what your kids say; you're spending the hard earned and driving the car, not them!
