Aero roof bars whats the best looking ones

Afternoon all , I'm picking my car up on friday its a b6 Avant 190 quattro s line, i already have a thule aero roof box, i was trawling the net looking for nice looking alloy aero bars, there seems to be quite a few makes , was wondering what are the good and bad ones out there, i'm trying to find a very low profile type ie the roof rail mounts are not like guiness cans in height !!! cheers Gary

You'll be wanting whispbar's by pro rack. Here's a pic of them on mine, they will require the t-piece mounting points though, as those huge thule clips won't go around the bars, they're too low.

Mine were 2nd hand from a member on here, but I was going to buy them from here...

Audi A4 Avant (02-05) for cars with roof railsrorack roof bars package - S53 Aero-X bars.

The s53 bars are the ones you need. How much stuff do you want to put up there? If you need loads of space, the bars I mention aren't the best as they're just not wide enough. I can squash my roof box and a bike rack up there if needs be, but bars that typically overhang are better if you have a lot of stuff, like multiple bike racks etc.

Cheers mate, looks loads better doesn't it. Only took 3 years to persuade the wife, in the end I just bought a set ha. She wasn't over the moon, but I was.

And is it wrong that I love my car with the roof box on?

No, 40 mm lowering springs and b5 perches. I copied the setup from dpbayly, as he'd just done it around the time I was buying my parts and liked how his sat.

Not too bad. Driving around normally it's fine, just a little firmer. Speedbumps feel like you're going through the ceiling if you take them with speed, but other then that I love it. Wife isn't keen, but she liked to waft along on the allroad-esque suspension when it was standard, so her opinion doesn't count.

lol, im in the same boat, the wife is not too keen on having a too harsh ride on her kiddy carrier but I HAVE got to do something about the standard ride height!!
Think I will look into the springs and perch idea. Wheres the best place to get the perches?

After fitting mine up with the Apex 40mm springs and B5 perches a friend of mine who had a sport decided he wanted to go down the same route as he too liked the look so i did his for him too and it rides in his opinion the same as it did before with the sport springs just lower.

Perches from TPS are around £36ish springs are APEX chepest place for them is Ebay i think i got mine from Camskill

Then it will ride much the same


Mine were on the 18" RS6 wheels but now on 19" with rubber band tyres this in my case has made it slightly more harsh but by no means a horrible drive I still love it.

Do you have to deal with the pinch bolt even if you just change the springs(ie Standard Perches)???

Also can you buy direct form TPS? I thought it was trade only?

You could get around the pinch bolt if you removed the whole strut including control arms etc, but I battled with the pinch bolt, as now they're done so won't have to worry about changing control arms in the future etc. I'll probably remove them once a year and re-copperslip them to ensure they don't seize up again.

TPS, apparently it's trade, and some people have reported being turned away, but many manage to get served. As I always recommend, turn up in dirtier oily clothes and you'll probably have more chance of being served I bet.

I think you can I'm sure i think Cambridge tps does sell to general public.

You can do the job without touching the pinch bolts you just need to release the 2 bolts at the other end of the arms that the pinch bolt holds i did my friends one this way and it was easy.

You dont need to remove the whole lot just release the lower bolt securing the suspension leg to the lower arm them undo the 3 bolts under the bonnet to drop the leg down then remove the other 2 bolts i was talking about to get round having to touch the pinch bolt then you can remove the suspension leg and leave the rest behind takes about 30 mins a side i should think on the floor on your drive
