A4 Convertible - Roof problems & Potentiometer to fix?

I have had problems with the roof not wanting to close a few times and after having to manually pulling the hood out half way and placing back in the boot it closed normally. - no error messages displayed.

I have taken the car into an AUDI dealership today for it to be checked over.

Conclusion - faulty potentiometer? Does any one know the purpose of this part and or have also experienced this problem / solution. Audi are fixing the problem for £230 which i know is expensive for what I guess a relativley small job but i was expecting £1000+.

It would be good to get your comments

All fixed now its just a ****ter that the sun is not out to enjoy the roof down.

Potentiometer replaced, Battery replaced, Rear number plate light fitting replaced, wash and vacume, coffee all for £310.

looking forward to the warmer weather.
