Audi.de Brochure for Audi A3 & S3...

Full LED lights, will be available on the A3 around the summer period.

Interesting radio on page 108. Looks like a non-motorised version that isn't available on the UK Spec - also looks very ugly in relation to the rest of interior!

Wonder how much the ALL LED lights will cost ?

They are an option I would like to have.

From what I gather the full LEDs are around the same price as the Xenons, which makes me wonder why they even bothered offering Xenons on the A3 at all really - they might as well just have done LEDs.

Interesting to see how they work compared to the Xenons. The main beam obviously requires a separate set of LEDs which are on the "inside" (the ones that are flashed in the video). As this is where the indicators are on Xenon-equipped cars, they've obviously managed to get the DRLs to double as indicators instead which looks very cool.

Would have had these had they been available when I ordered. Then again I'm sure loads of options will get added over the course of the next year so I'll just have them on my next car when this one goes back at the end of next year :)

EDIT: Thinking about why they're offering both Xenons and LEDs - there must still be some advantage to the former. AFAIK, LEDs are superior in that they're brighter and consume less power and are less likely to break/blow but there must be something they can't do. Perhaps the adaptive option offered on the Xenons isn't possible or available with LEDs just yet?

I thought that on Xenon-equipped cars the DRLs already doubled as indicators, no?

I thought so too

I'm sure we're right though I think Vertigo1 has them, so I'm surprised he's saying otherwise (unless maybe he's just never gone out for a look with his hazards on ). Here's the equivalent video of what the OP posted, this time featuring the Xenon lights on the A3 S-Line:

2013 Audi A3 Sportback S-Line - YouTube

DRL's do not double as indicators with xenon light package. Its only on the full LED option.

Pants! Wish Audi were clearer with their literature sometimes!

Next challenge is to find what the indicators look like on the Xenon set up. Maybe Vertigo1 can help? :)

That's exactly what I came back to this page to suggest... :) You're so good at taking photos, Vertigo!

I picked up from an R8 owner on another forum who moved from a xenon TT to an R8 with full LED lights that the LED lights were significantly brighter than xenons.

Xenons are a huge leap from conventional lights, so if you can get that step forward again from xenon to LED then would be really cool.

They are described by Audi as giving almost daylight levels of illumination in the beam they give out ... would need a test drive at night :)

The indicators on the xenon light cluster are nothing special. Just run of the mill indicators on the inside of the cluster.

I worry about how I'd look to other drivers, though. I see non-standard LED lights on a car coming at me and I either think "souped-up boy racer", or I worry that if they decide to flash their lights at me it's going to blind me because they're so immediate. It's that same unnaturalness that you get from an LED traffic light - no chance for the light to ramp up over a few imperceptible hundredths of a second and back down again. The sheer brightness is also either terrifying or headache-inducing  I almost got a migraine sitting behind someone in a Q3-style car with LED brake lights on. She sat with her foot on the brake the whole time through a traffic queue at night.

Anyway - I don't really have anything against anyone else on the forum getting them, I just worry people would have all those negative feelings towards me when I'm out on the road!

Audi didn't get it right in their brochure either:

Xenon

It's described as the Xenon's, but it's actually the full LED setup.

Good find!

To be honest the main reason I upgraded to Xenons was for the increased light output over halogen, and for the 'eye brows' DRLs. So i'm still happy! Just goes to show how many variations there are when Audi UK also get confused!

As deci said, Xenon equipped cars have regular indicators. They're not even LED but just regular bulbs.

As with all other Xenon equipped Audis, when the indicators are active, the DRL on that side dims in brightness a bit so it's easier for oncoming cars to see the indicator.

Firstly Audi brochures are notoriously vague especially if its a new feature, it must be translating the technical terms from the original German version. They always use the "Audi retain the right to make changes etc" if you think the spec in the book isn't right.

Secondly, owners of the C7 model A6 who have the full led headlight option say it looks the biz,but if they were to spec it again would save themselves the cash as the light is not any improvement over the xenons of their previous cars.

Fwiw I think the xenon lights are a must if you can stretch to it on the A3.

Interesting reading the brochure and using google translate on some bits!

I have to say I am liking the LED headlights more and more. However with all the other options I would like, the price of the LED headlights could be a factor, I hope they aren't silly money!

Nice to see the optional wheels too for the S3 (assuming UK spec will be same?)

I'm sure someone on here said they were around the £700 mark. If so then that's a bargain as they're £2.5k on the A6!

I thought the LED lights on the A6 were a £1200 extra - over and above XENON spec.

So perhaps £2.5k over halogen.

Xenons really are a must though once you have experienced them.

I had an A4 loan car last year with halogens and the difference was staggering, they were like candles and the light instead of being bright white was a pale yellow.

If the LED's are up to £1200 over the standard xenons then I will spec them for sure, more so now I see they are FULL led and the xenons include some standard bulbs for indicators.

The LED lights are also cool the way the DRL's double up as indicators.

.... oh and as for dazzling other drivers on-coming, according to Audi not a problem - I defo read this in some of the Audi literature on line, if I find it I will post.

Found this on the LED lights ...

[h=3]Optional all-LED headlights[/h]As an option which breaks new ground in the compact class, an upgrade to LED headlights will also be offered. Previously only available in full-size models, their low beams are generated in two free-form reflectors with a total of nine high-performance LED chips. Ten high-performance LEDs in the matt aluminum trim provide the high beams. Depending on the features chosen, the high beams are switched on automatically and LED cornering lights illuminate tight corners. Inter-urban, motorway and tourist attraction lighting can also be incorporated. The all-weather lights enhance safety in fog or snow.

Interesting. As I might've said elsewhere on the forum, the A3 I have on order is my first foray into Audi. Is an official after-purchase upgrade (from Xenons to LEDs) something that sounds plausible?

It would be plausible but at a staggering cost as you no doubt would have to buy the LED lights as a complete unit ie you could not retro-fit LED lights into your xenon casings.

xenons are the main thing to get over halogens - full led lights will be a nice to have, but by no means essential.

Just found the german pricelist on this page
it is the bottom one - Preisliste Laden PDF.

LED headlights for S3 are 770 euros. Quick conversion via google gives £665 ! Happy with that :)

Also the S3 manual base price is 38900 euros although that translates to £33593 - perhaps their tax is higher than ours?

So that's presumably £665 on top of Xenons. On an A3 S-line that's not too bad, but on an SE or Sport that's an additional £1,850 - quite pricey.

Cheers mate and great find

Totally agree that 770 euros / £665 for full LED lights is quite reasonable.

As my German is none existent are you able to work out what the extra cost is for the quilted diamond effect seats please ?

Also, are ALL of the 18" wheel designs included in the price or are any extra cost.

Top man for finding this :)

.... and oh, if the base price is £33.5k instead of £31k, that will be a major blow !

In the german brochure the LED headlights are only an option on the S3 (which has the Xenons as standard). The LEDs are not available as an option, on the other A3 models.

Yes snake I will look shortly to try and work those out. I use Google translate to try and interpret the text - it's all Dutch to me !

PS that base price was the total, I guess, including german equivalent of VAT. I will see if I can find a pre tax price.

Snake - From the german price list - for the S3 there are 2 option 18" wheels but no 19" option that I can find. Both wheel options are 200 euros including 19% tax as best I can tell!

One option is the type that is pictured on the blue S3 at Audi City on the main S3 thread and also here.
The other option is a 10 spoke wheel. Small pictures on Pg 13/14 of the german pricelist pdf.

The standard wheel is like the one on audi site here.

Thats just whats in the German brochure, earlier in this thread pjedroo said full LED headlights are coming to the A3 range later this year.

Just confirmed German VAT is 19% and that base price of 38900 euros includes the VAT. Our VAT rate is 20% so actually £33593 is 1% too low !!

Lets hope that Audi UK honour their statement that is still shown on their S3 news item.
"UK pricing will be no higher than outgoing model despite performance and equipment gains"

Last model of S3 - Sportback was £31840 otr. I cannot find price of the 3 dr S3?
