as above im looking into having a full custom exhaust fitted to my a4 cab to hear some v6 tdi noise im not looking for quiet,

my options are,
1, no dpf and straight through just centre box before it splits into 2 then straight through to tip

2, dpf with one centre box straight through to tips

3, full straight throughs no dpf

4, no dpf straight through to 2 silencer boxs

im liking the sound of this a5

That A5 sounds just like my a4 1.9tdi i have a full stainless turbo back no boxes and a decat fitted it sounds great but sometimes its a bit over the top lol.

Here is mine - need to get a better video!

Full straight - no DPF - 3" to the rear then 2x 2.5" to the boxes.

Sounds good Alex but I'm after a little more growl so may opt for a small centre box and straight through tailpipes

Go for option number 4 but leave the pre cat in like i have on my a6 ! The noise/drone will be too much if you decide to drive fast on motorway ! I have a nice growl in low revs but quietens on high speed, i would not want it any other way !

I LOVE the sound of that A5 with the Supersprint about 3k rpm! It sounds like a petrol V8! Would love that sound from my car, that would finish it off in my opinion. Do you think it's possible? And if so what combo do you think I'd need to make it sound like that? Same as what the A5 has, - downpipe, no dpf, and straight through? Although I didn't think the 2.5tdi (mine being a 2001 model) had a dpf??

These are my 4" tips on my full stainless with no boxes sounds like a v8 too lol cant upload a vid on taptalk i dnt think.

Looks nice that mate, you'll have to upload a vid so we can hear what it sounds like!

Alex- dunno of its just me but when I click on your vid it just takes me to an empty page on your photobucket?

Sorry wish I could upload a vid as it does sound surprisingly just like that a5 but I dont know how to lol.

I have a custom 3" with one small sports box in the middle, its noisy (just ask a few members lol), I'll see if I can post a youtube link for you
:)

Heres a photo of the 4" tips

cheers buddy

woah never knew you could get tdi's roaring like that :p my a4's my 1st diesel so thought i'd have to drive round with no noise coming out the back but now I've seen this it changes everything :D one question though does it effect your mpg much, cuz with my petrol car the mpg hit the floor everytime I put an exhaust system on :p

Not that much but tbh I dont check it but I can still get 50 mpg on the motorway and mid 30's in town.

Mind me asking how much you got quoted? What your having done? And where?
I've had it done and sounds awesome,
Cost me £350 but I kept my dpf cat to sell for scrap,

I've had decat to centre then just a resonator to absorb the rasp and straight throughs with 2 smart tailpipes
Not overly loud on drive but when you plant it it sounds awesome, even the mrs loves the sound now through the tunnels

Haha! That's wicked. That's a good price, where did you get it done?

So our car has a dpf? I didn't think it did. So how come it doesn't have the issues more modern diesels have with the dpf getting clogged up and then going into limp mode?

Oh and what are smart tailpipes?

Gotta get a vid mate, especially through a tunnel! :D

Sorry lads been busy at work and the mrs drives the car,and weather is crap, I will get a vid up this weekend and a pic of the system including underneath,
i had it done at top gear performance in Doncaster and yes it had a cat/dpf fitted before

I'm pretty sure I'm right when I say that the 2.5 TDI doesn't have a DPF at all. DPF's were fitted to cabrios until the B7 chassis in 2005.

Sure, they have an EGR and catalytic converters, but that's it.

Flame suit on...

your probally right then,
removing the cat and a free flowing system really has opened it up as before it felt restricted,
a few dodgy pics and a dodgy video, the howl after shutoff is nowhere near as loud it seems to be amplified on the video

I didn't think mine had a dpf, I knew it has a cat tho.

Gutted, can't view your vid on my phone, it just takes me to your photobucket page with no video to click on....

Got a proper link you can post up of it? Really liking the tailpipe style and size, that's exactly what I would choose.

Do you get more smoke now that it's de-catted tho? Is yours remapped?

no mine has a tuning box but dont 100% think it does a lot to be fair, it doesnt smoke anymore than usual i will upload a vid to youtube and post it

Sounding good mate! Oh, and who's is the series 1 in the photo? Looks hardcore! :)

Yeah liking the sound of that exhaust system mate! Sounds very nice. My standard exhaust whistles like that at the moment, inside the car it sounds like a police siren in the distance.

Series 1 has an awesome spec! Bet that's gonna be a savage little car once that's done, screamer pipes on ford turbo's sound nuts as well! :)
