Time for a build thread....big turbo

keeping your wallet empty :D
nice Alex :D

Thanks!

You have no idea, and luckily neither does my wife!

I always put aside more time and cash than we think we're going to need, and I've already sold the kW v3 kit which helps towards the Clubsport gear.

That should arrive this week, and then we(or at least AMD) can start the real work of getting it fitted, and seeing how we can squeeze the new wheels under the arches.
The immediate plan is not to use the R888s as it's just to cold and slippery, and maybe fit Michelin Supersports to my old rims for the moment.

Also have to get the engine running with the new AMD intake, and see how that logs.

so at the end adjustable top mounts and v3's are not compatible.
i didn't know there are Michelin Pilot Super Sports in 18"?

What it is comes down to the bolts at the top of the strut being a bit too short.

kW had got this incorrect, but there's nothing that can be done about that.

As far as I can see,245x40x18 is now listed for the Supersports.

just did a search seems that 225/40 R18 is also available now :D

That's what I meant....I knew I'd typed something wrong!

Fingers crossed for the Clubsport kit arriving today or Saturday, and then fitting can commence.
.
That means that AMD can then get going on making those wheels fit under the arches, and maybe trimming back the brake bellhousing a bit to help....the VWRacing kit basically incorporates a 10mm spacer in the casting of the bellhousing to allow the kit to fit under the stock rims, and that may need a bit of work.
.
I think I may have to stick to engine work for a while after this to allow AMD to get over the amount of time my car uses!

Much appreciated.....you'll have to come down to the next AMD open day!

Great news for me!

Clubsport suspension has arrived and is being fitted.

The car will need the brake bell housing skimmed a bit and then a good bit if camber and a touch of arch rolling.

Then we should be sorted!

Pics to follow later.

So as of today,my idea of a bit of camber has turned into the following:

New AP discs
Mintex 1155 pads.
New tie rod
Clubsport suspension inc topmounts.
Modifying and re anodising brake bell mounts.
Replace exhaust backbox under warranty(thanks Milltek)

And a few service items like oil, plugs, cam follower and new tyres.

Eeek

Sounds good brother!

Thanks !

Just getting costly. Lol.

But AMD are doing an excellent job and that's enough for me.

So,as promised earlier,time for a few pictures....

These are the offending wheels, lying around waiting to be fitted....

And the Clubsport suspension, fresh in the box, waiting for fitting....

Here's the v3's and the Clubsports together....

Note how much tighter wound the Clubsport springs are,and the linear rate.

Hi alex ,very nice mate you going for new brakes or you just changing rotors and bells...

Cheers.

New rotors and pads as the calipers are VWRacing 6 pots and quite up to the job.

The bell housings need to be machined back a few mms to allow the wheels to come in a bit.
The other factor there is not bringing them in so far that they catch the suspension uprights.

Lol.

And a couple more....

Thanks very much.

I need all the encouragement I can get right now, when I think of what the bill is going to be!
All being well,it may be running by next week.

Money Money Money......BUT......right foot down and happy face

th_smiley-face.jpg

That's definitely true.

It may not be as bonkers as the GpN Escort,or realistically anywhere near as quick across country as that thing was,but it's quick, comfortable and reliable, and it doesn't eat spares and fuel.

Let's hope the cake is ready by next week sometime!

Waiting on the pics from AMD and will post 'em up as soon as they arrive.

Hoping it will be ready sometime next week.

Please do alex ,can hardly wait ;)

Bad news first...no pics as it threw it down yesterday and there was no chance of taking any pics and staying dry.
.
Good news now....got the nice new AP discs as below, but the bellhousings are back, skimmed and re-anodised in black, and the car is finally off the ramp and looking good.

Just need some clear weather and a chance for some pics.

Found a low-res pic from AP of what's going on.....
.

These....have slightly more meat on them....

Thanks Jimmy...
It's just the rotors getting replaced as the calipers from the VWR kit are fine, plus the work to the bellhousing as mentioned below.....hopefully,all of that gets put back together this week, and the car hits the road again shortly.

It's alive!

Didn't fall off the road today on its first test drive and should be ready for tomorrow,so should have a few pics for then.

If I don't fall off on the ice myself.....

Nice one alex ,if you need a free photo shots ,just let me know ;)

Going to take the camera with me tomorrow and see what I can do....

Still may need to consider wider carbon front wings like the Osir ones but I'll decide after seeing it and driving it.

If you need a pro camera man give me a shout as i,ve got adam coopers number as he was at vdubs and really did take some amazing pictures ..wider carbon wings ,liking the sound if that :) ohh id do it for free ,think i said that lol

That's very kind indeed!

I'd need to get it cleaned first though as it looks like its been off roading somewhere right now.

I've been thinking of the Osir wings if the wheels didn't fit properly, but Ben says its all working and should be ready tomorrow so we shall see.

I'll post some up tomorrow and see what the verdict is......of the car and the pics that is!

Got the thing back!....

.
Ben is sending some pics taken to day,but it does look kind of mean on the new wheels.
The feel of the car is entirely different, even though I didn't give it much of a go given the chilly conditions and those tyres, but the turn-in is way better, and the car feels much better connected to the road.
.
The ride is considerably firmer than before, but not harsh, and obviously much better controlled, meaning that even on tyres which are not exactly winter tyres(!),the grip levels are much better than I'd expected, and my fillings aren't on the floor.
The fit of the entire setup is as good as ever, and the guys at AMD found a nice tweak for the front arches,by adjusting the factory bolts to allow the wings to come a few mm further out,but not that anyone would notice if you didn't know it had been done....nice one.
.
Parts list and pics to follow.
