Where can I find info on recalls and technical issues???

My dads just got a 09 Q5 and there's a couple of things I need to check.

Also, where would I find Audis official line on using the same tyres with a Quattro. Basically all four tyres are of different manufactures. I was always under the impression that all 4 tyres had to be identical when used on a Quattro to avoid excessive wear on the 4wd system. The cars from a main dealer, so just want to go in with some backup.

Cheers.

Give Audi a call with your reg, they should tell you about any recalls for your vehicle.
As for the tyres, there is a reasoned argument for using the same manufacturers tyre all round, but realistically as long the same size tyre is used on all 4 corners there shouldn't be an issue, it's more about tyre circumference or at least that's what I was taught many moons ago lol

Agreed, its all about using the same sized tyre.

I found this pretty unreliable to be fair, the A4 coil pack issue isn't even listed.
That's because the coil pack issue is NOT a Recall, the VOSA website only lists safety related Recalls (like the throttle pedal problem on Toyotas) - it doesn't list the (many) Audi Service Campaigns such as the coil pack issue.

I suspect rowdy boy is actually asking about Service Campaigns and not about Recalls - many people confuse them with each other.

The best place to ask about Service Campaigns is an Audi dealer, give them the registration number and they'll be able to check the Audi database for Service Campaigns, both that have been done and that are outstanding, on the vehicle.

Ah, i see.

Well I had my coil packs changed recently, and the invoice said it was free due to "recall".

Maybe Audi should learn their own terminology. Ha ha

Sorry, don't agree. If you have four different tyres, albeit the same size, then you will not have equal levels of grip due to different manufacturers having different tread patterns and using different compounds of rubber.
The handbook for my A4 states that on vehicles with 4WD all 4 wheels must always be fitted with tyres of the same type, make and tread pattern, as otherwise the driveline can be damaged by continuous variations in the wheel speeds.
My dealer fitted Conti's to the front of my car with part worn Michelins on the rear. I argued this and they insisted it was OK. I disagreed and took it further with Audi at Milton Keynes and they agreed with me and fitted 2 new Conti's to the rear at their expense. Also on a Quattro you should have no more than 2mm difference between front and rear tread depths.
I would go back to dealer and get them to rectify. If the vehicle was bought under the Audi used scheme then any tyre with 3mm or less tread should be replaced before the customer takes delivery.

He called Audi UK today and they confirm, all tyres on a Quattro must be of same manufacturer, tread pattern and depth.

The dealer has a note on their computer about corroded calipers on a certain batch, used on Q5 models. It only states they are "wire brushed", they'll corrode in no time with no anodising or other protection. I just wondered where this info is available to the public.

Your correct, I checked with a colleague who drives a Quattro and he has confirmed your statement, Oops!

If you ring this number tel:0800699888 which is run by Audi, give them your vin or reg and they will cross reference it against their database for recalls and advice you accordingly.
I called them couple of days ago on my 1.8 TQS and now am booking car into Audi for a free change of coil packs. Sweet. Shame as its the steering rack that's shot but hey ho a change of coil packs won't hurt.

Sorry they didn't state it was a Service Campaign or recall, just to book it with Audi under coil issue

Hi Guys,
If my coils are all non revision i.e. 07K 905 715 <no letter. i guess its due for the recall?

Thing is one burned out last night luckily I stopped the engine popped the bonnet and dowsed the smoking unit quickly before it turned into flames!!! the whole road was smoked up.. sure they all thought man he must be stoned!

So now are Audi going to give me coil packs if i walk in - can't get it there on 3? what's the deal?!

This is exactly what the "recall" is there to rectify, call the dealer, get it booked in they'll do the rest. I even got a safety check which was very informative and a full valet.
