whilst i was in the dealers today getting my car sorted, i mentioned to the tech that i had had to restart the car the other day as there was a low hum coming from the speakers, and the sound from the system sounded crap. turned off engine , could still hear the hum, wasn't until the car fully shut down that the hum stopped. restarted car hum was gone.

Well apparently this is a known fault and Audi are working on a software upgrade to fix it. so you don't have to restart car every time you get the fault you can just reset the stereo by pressing Menu, the round MMI wheel, and the top right hot key!! that resets it.

they told me as soon as a software fix is out i will be notified. everybody else that's not getting the fault will just get the update next time there car is in for anything.!

Just had a call from dealers, car has been booked in this Saturday for a recall on the MMI, full software update !

Interesting, do you know anything more about the update/recall? Might have to talk to my dealer about it.

Only real problem I've had is the nav map has locked up twice - everything still works and I still get voice directions and can use other features, just the map itself is frozen until I reset it.

Can't say I've had the hum problem though.

to be honest since I mentioned it to service department few months back the fault stopped! Apart from what they told me originally , that it was a known fault and an update was due, all he added was it's a "full" MMI update under a recall. Might just be for the standard setup , as I don't have the tech pack?

mark.

Coincidentally, had another glitch this morning, with the DAB. Wasn't receiving any DAB stations - Radio 1 had switched to FM and all the other stations had a line through the antenna icon to indicate no reception. Every ten seconds or so, the sound would cut out, the crossed out icons would change to the content type indicator for a second or two, as if it was trying again, then it would go back to not working once more.

Reset the MMI and it was fine. Think I'll have a word with the dealer to see what they know about this update.

BTW Mark, when you next speak to the dealer, can you ask if they have a Technical Service Bulletin (TSN) number for this update/recall, as I can then quote that at my dealer as I fully anticipate them being useless :)

will do !! Am calling them back this morning to make sure they have a courtesy car sorted .

Ok thanks, although that doesn't look like the numbers I've seen before. Will see what my dealer says.

Just popped in to the dealer - car booked in for next week for the update.

Apparently it's a big one, not just the MMI but several other things as well, including things like the aircon.

Oh ok, that'll be why they need it for 3 to 4 hours then lol !!

Would you expect a dealer to update a car not yet handed over (awaiting SB launch) or should the customer (me) need to prompt the dealer pre delivery?

Usually just get things like updates done at service time.....but no idea if PDI should include checking for software updates? Thoughts?

I just got a rapid response from my dealer. They say yes, PDI includes doing all Software Updates and any re-calls that may have been announced since it left the factory. Anything else that arises after PDI will require the car to be returned. Sounds good to me :)

I wonder if the layout will change , and or any new settings / options within the MMI ??

Mark.

We can hope but I suspect it'll just be a load of bug fixes, which I guess is understandable with so much tech on a new model of car.

Noob question: PDI = Pre-delivery inspection?

Yep. It involves removing all the packaging, protective materials, suspension blocks, and then checking for transit damage, paperwork, registration, test drive - and as we just found - running software updates and applying any recalls.

Just dropped car off for MMI/software update, ill post up whats changed!!

.....just to note this is the car they gave me today !

Looking forward to the update info as I collect mine on Monday week and have asked the supplying dealer to make sure it is done before delivery .

i sat in one of the Q3 this week , you can see that the new A3 is a step ahead in terms of design

I actually went in to the showroom to buy a Q3 and came out having ordered an A3

I would presume that the rest would follow the A3 in terms of interior design ? But no not as nice my A3 lol !!

Car is back with me, and by the looks of it there are no changes to the MMI! Did have a puncher apparently which they fixed free of charge, and a set of golf balls left on the passenger seat, they know I play golf.

bit of an anti climax really...... Saying that not sure what I expected lol.

Ah well thanks for posting anyway. I'm going to make a note of all the software version numbers on mine before it goes in and see what, if anything, changes.

To be honest I wouldn't really have expected any visual changes as the system is new. I suspect it's just a raft of minor bug fixes that have come to light in the six months or so that the car has been on sale.

Well it went in today.

And stayed there!

Got a call from them late afternoon to say they were having problems with the update and needed to talk to Audi to resolve it so we'll see what happens tomorrow.

They did say that, aside from a general update, there is a recall notice against the car. Apparently it's all software but there are a shedload of updates, including the ECU, MMI, AC, instrument cluster (DIS?) and even something to do with the doors!

oh mate that's a crappa!! Did they give you a car till tomorrow??

the doors??? What the 70,s group.... They won't play on the Bose ?? Lol

Yeah had a loaner today so just keeping it until tomorrow. Damn A4 though - hate them :(

God knows what's with the doors!

Maybe they're trying to fit 2 extra doors and you'll be collecting a Sportback :faint:

On a more serious note it does sound intriguing.....not collecting my car until 23rd so presume any updates will be done prior to collecting it

I've been told that the latest software updates will be included during PDI.

When I get it back I'll post all the before and after software version numbers off the system so you can check if your new cars match :)

So glad I logged onto this evening. I too had a call from the dealership in the west of the Anglia TV region whose group name starts with V and want to collect my A3. It's a 2.0 TDI S line from november 2012. I was too told that it needs a MMI update (I had the sound problem once before Christmas), and also some problem with the fuel tank lining. - what?

They will come and collect the car but not replaice the diesel or give me a courtsey car. My other option is to wait for the cars first service. I think I might call Audi UK and go above their heads?

Well just spoken to the dealer. Apparently the reason they were having problems with the update is because my car already has the latest software on it! So they've had my car for two days for no reason whatsoever?! Was it that hard to check the version numbers before they did anything?

I'm a bit sceptical to be honest. My car was delivered to the dealer in September 2012 and to me a month later so it was a very early one. Unless the software was updated when it went in for the speaker problem a while back, which I doubt because they never mentioned it, then just how old does the car have to be to have this old software on it?

Will speak to them when I collect it later.

Number3, can you check the version numbers of your updated car for me so I can compare them to mine? They're in the MMI Setup area (Menu -> top right button I think).

Yep that's the screen, although the version numbers are totally different to mine, probably because mine's the Tech Pack. Oh well.

Spoke to the dealer when I collected it. He said the MMI software was already the latest version but the recall items, such as the ECU and AC etc did need updating, although god knows for what exactly. All looks the same to me. Just glad to have my car back! :)
