Hi guys. Ive been looking around for a used s3 for 6 months now with a 4 months gap in Afghanistan in between. Ive spotted an 2010 sportsback in condor gray with 38000 miles on the clock cruise xenons (not sure if thats standard or not) decent spec. Main audi dealer, they are asking just under £22000 for it which seems high to me. How much leeway do dealers have in their prices, an advice for pushing a good deal as ive not delt with audi dealers before. I read the FAQs and realise its due a service soon including haldex oil and filter, any thing else i should ask about? Im wondering if i should wait until new S3 is released and if this will have any impact on used prices.
Any advice welcome.

Thanks

Have a look on auto trader there plenty on there should give you a better idea of spec and price.

Is it S-Tronic or Manual? They should really be doing the Haldex before selling it really, if it's a manual then that seems a bit steap, same spec and age on Autotrader would be between £20-£22K id say

It's an s tronic. Haldex and service was done at 35000 miles for some reason. Drove it today and it drove fine but it's had a new gear box at 32000 under warranty :-/?.. and although it hadn't been prepped or valeted yet the body work clearly hadn't been looked after, bad gouge on rear bumper, swelling paint from untreated stone chip on wheel arch, didn't give a warm feeling compared to some of the others I've seen but all this would be done and re sprayed before sale apparently. But still, if the previous own didn't care then it does not inspire confidence.

I've just bought a mint 2010 S3 sports back black ed S tronic. Fully loaded. 33k - 20 grand from a private dealer. Approved audis are over priced

I would steer clear of one that hasn't been looked after

Main dealers can be a tad over priced, like any business they are there to make money. Some would say to rip us off.

I paid £18k for a very clean 59 plate black manual s3 33000 miles, Couple of months back with buckets

38 on the clock with haldex done and new gearbox at 32, plus dodgy bodywork.... suggests it's been ragged about a bit to me. Certainly not worth top doller. That £22k is ballpark top end for what I'd expect from that age, mileage and spec, so would be about right for a well looked after decent one - but this example doesn't fit that.

I think Ben got a bargain by the sounds of things - but somewhere between the two is probably about right depending on condition. A dealer would normally add about £5k to most A3s, as far as I'm aware - but obviously you don't know for sure, nor do you know whether the car has just been priced up or has been reduced a couple of times. I'd aim for about 10% off and see how you go - they're happy to take 8-12% on a new car, so hopefully that might have become a psychological "okay" in their heads? :p

Yea was a little bargain it was up for 19k reduced for a quick sale, the pictures were small so didn't do it much justice and probably didn't get to much interest, plus the guy had been messed around with people promising to buy it then pulling out,

So I offered a cheeky 17k and we agreed on 18k as long it was a tidy as he said when I went to look at it which it was!

plus not many people have the cash to go and buy private so I think he was struggling to sell it, 18k in his pocket was better then dreaming of having 19k especially as he needed the money for his extension which was going on,

he told me he bought it 26k about 18 months ago,

mind at the time there was a white one on eBay for 18k had the parking sensors which mine hasn't, but had white leather which I thought would get grubby,
and much prefer my buckets and rns-e, my black grill and black door trims,
there are plenty of bargains if you hold out and keep looking I was on the net for 2 months searching till I finally splashed out the money,
