Well yesterday I decided I would once and for all cure my ruddy misted up rear lights so removed them and as there double skinned I made some small holes through from the inside (through the bulb holes) to the inner cavity as there tinted out you couldn't see this from the outside anyway did all that then popped them on top of one of my storage heaters (I live in an old cottage and dont have central heating) there off during the day so just give off heat and charge up over night any how i went to bed last night forgetting they were still on the heater and awoke this morning to melted lenses :sob:

So on the bright side I just ordered a pair of OE rear lights so at least the misting up should be fixed should arrive Monday then have to tint them before fitting them....

Well that was a bit unfortunate, im sure you were not amused this morning. Good thing is, you get some new lights. I hope you get them soon and get the car back together. Im pretty sure you wont do that again. :) x

Its about the 3rd time I've tried to sort the problem of condensation out and my wife thinks I did it on purpose so i can get some new lights..........Like I would do a thing like that :sly:

Couldn't you bond a strip over the unit to hide the melted bit Crome trim maybe or black trim

Gutted mate! They don't look tooooo bad, so maybe try recoup a bit of cash by selling them on cheap? Someone might want them?

Not what you want to wake up to!

What will you use to tint the new ones?

They to me are awful i dont even want to walk round the back of my car....

Its hard to tell from the pic but it has dented quite badly the places circled in red and the places circled in green have distorted (sunk in) and because there shiny black it shows up really bad IMO

Anyway only have to wait till monday to get my new units have them sprayed and fitted.

If anyone wants my old units there more than welcome to them for free as I will only bin them, I showed a friend and he couldn't see what I was moaning about till he got up close.

No not at all...

I'll tint them at work the same way I tinted them before by mixing up standard car lacquer with a small amount of black then I apply thin coats till the desired effect is reached, good thing about doing them this way is they come out really shiny and also stay very translucent.

Its mixed 10 parts clear lacquer to 1 part black in case anyone wants to get it done.

Not nice!

I almost forgot my headlight in the oven when I was spitting them......but was saved in time thankfully

One if mine has condensation, I noticed today when cleaning it.

And yeah, they seem worse than I first thought. Shame, but as you say at least you get new rear lights. Did you just mask off the centre bits to keep them clear?

I'm still 50/50 on how much I like them tinted ha.

Yep just masked them off and spray on the coats till desired effect is reached
