Hi Guys,

Up until a year ago I had a 8L S3 which i loved!
Due to age i swapped it in and got an Abarth 500 on finance, now looking to get a house so need to get rid of the finance and buy outright!

I have been looking around and found a couple of things:
Mazda MX5
VAG Diesel
Both of which work for different reasons, but what have I missed??

Criteria as follows:

- Fun
- Reasonably eco (32mpg plus on motorway)
- Reliable

I dont have kids so seats dont matter neither does age really so long as its reliable!

Any suggestions on something VAG or NON-VAG would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

You chopped in your S3 for a jet powered roller skate??? :jester:

Seriously, for 3k you might find yourself paying out just as much in corrective maintenance over the next 6 months as you are for your finance now! Are you sure you've thought this through?

If Yes: The MX5.

not sure if you would get 32MPG but a B5 1.8TQS would be around the 2K mark, that would leave a few quid for any repair bills, and a remap...

If it was me, I'd go right out and buy another crx sir ef8, a civic ef9 . Or a vtec civic vti ek4

Without doubt, the crx is the only car I'd buy again inch drop of a hat. Only got rid as gf was pregnant.

There is nothing like vtec yo!

After working on, and driving them, I'd never have an mx5. Unless it was free.

The Jet powered rollerskate was actually really good fun! I honestly never thought I would trade an Audi in for essentially a Fiat either but you have to try the car to see how good it is.

And cupra r... thats an interesting one, can you get one of these for 3K?? I thought prices were on the up for these! Is reliability good on these? I know its basically an S3 underneath!

Corrado also a really good suggestion though I am not sure I would get over 30mpg on the motorway? any experience of these? Whats relliability like?

mk2 MX5 (with LSD) gets a vote from me. Do it now while you don't have kids. The 1800 is quick enough, just get a smaller steering wheel if you have long legs.

A CRX would be cool but after an S3 I think you'd find them really dated even though there is electric everything. A Integra DC2 can just about be picked up for £3k.

A 328ci would only get 32mpg on a motorway but are very cheap now (1999-2002) and are packed with goodies. Round town the mpg is crap though.
