Hey guys,

Just bought one of these beauts, it's got every single extra possible apart from cruise control and electric seats, but has everything else, literally. Picked it up for an amazing price.

First question is, it's done 80k, been well serviced but also been driven pretty hard - although it still drives really nicely, so would a remap be more trouble than it's worth, e.g. end up costing me a shed load money?

Secondary is the DPF filter, I've heard that if I get that removed then I get a nice little increase in torque and power - but will this make it fail it's mot? And it's a lot harder for them to remove it on the quattros ,so would it be worth it as it's going to cost a lot more than the FWD versions?

Other than that, have you guys got any suggestions that I should keep my eye on, nice little tweaks, things that may fail etc? It's had the belt and water pump done at 72k and been serviced very well.

Thanks

Welcome to the site.

Enjoy using.

DPF removal will help in so much, at least it wont get clogged anyore & require regen's all the time :)

If you need cruise fitted, give me a shout as I do the technology installs for these cars :)

Sent you a PM - at least I think I have, it never said sent... If you didn't get anything from me, let me know..

Thanks

I have the same car and model year as you. I had a remap without the not insignificant expense of the DPF delete as I do a lot of miles and think that the likelyhood of DPF problems will be remote. I am very happy with my call so far.

Thats the point, if you do allot of miles, the dpf isnt an issue mostly, but short start/stop journeys are an issue, he knows the issues now, so can make his own decision.

Make sure its had the injector recall done ;)

I removed my DPF last year and it still passed the MOT; added bonus was it freed up approx 5mpg. Prior to DPF removal I did do mainly short journey's for approx 12 months and never had an issue. IMO issues occur when people ignore the warning lights

Enjoy your new ride; hope you got deep pockets because forums will spend your money lol

The problem is that the DPF delete on a Quattro is significantly more expensive option than a regular A3, hence the need to evaluate your personal circumstances.

No its not....... if you call £50 significant then yeah but thats how much more the Quatrro is to DPF delete compared to normal. Thats what Shark Performance charge and myself.

And with reference to the MOT failure question. Auto Express were asked to comment on the legality in running a vehicle with the DPF deleted. They contacted VOSA who stated that a car that had the DPF removed would NOT fail an MOT purely on it being not fitted. It would all depend on the emssion/smoke test. If it passed then great.

What you say about the MOT is the same as what VOSA said to me. Your £50 difference for the DPF delete between Quattro and regular A3 must be a special price for you northern guys because the difference down here in Kent is £3-400, i.e. more than the remap.

Against the hassles of having dpf issues, visits to the dealer, inconveniences etc etc, some would call any extra cost a blessing, that the fact it can be removed as I often read of people going back/forth to audi for this very thing & end up with bills for said.

Thanks for the feedback so far,

I do a a 6 mile run back and forth to my job everyday (so 12 miles in total) and it doesn't get used much more than that during the week (apart from maybe a couple miles here and there), but at the weekends I tend to clock up at least 300 miles. My question is, with my usage in mind, do you think I will have any issues?

Is it £300-400 with the remap @Brodster?

N8 the guy I suggested, is a shark dealer aswell :)

I did similar journey's for approx 12 months (mapped too) and I encountered ZERO problems :)

Like I said previously, DPF's go wrong because people don't act quickly enough when a warning light pops up. Usually one of the sensors fails which then stops a regen. However, because Audi recommend you drive in a certain way when the light comes on and it suddenly goes off, people think its all ok. 9/10 times though you are actually speeding up the demise of the DPF because a sensor has become faulty and you are in actual fact clogging it up by driving in the prescribed manner :(

That's really good to know, I will drop it into the stealer to see if it needs one. If it does, I will see how much it costs and then I will decide if it's worth the money to have it done or if it's worth just getting it removed and re-maped in one (elsewhere obviously).

- Did your remap increase fuel economy if you sit on the motorway at 70?

I just did from Liverpool to Leeds using 1/8th of a tank, it said I averaged 42mpg, seems like I should be getting more - although it is the quattro.

Before the map I was getting 42-45mpg
Post map was 45-49mpg
Post DPF removal I get approx 49mpg; more if I drive sensibly. It tends to hover around 47-49mpg though as I do like to flex my right foot :)

I'm very tempted.

Does yours ever struggle to start? Mine sounds fairly rough at startup? It may just be that i'm not used to a diesel though.

Didn't use to until the recent cambelt change........:uhm: always started on the money. Its only from cold its struggling and its only within the last week. Warm starts are fine though.

DPF delete + remap = WIN

That's weird because mines had a cambelt change recently as well - maybe it's because it's slightly tighter than before?

Well the wierd thing is, yesterday after giving it a good blast, I got home turned the engine off, then about 20 seconds later turned it back on, and it really struggled to turn on (briefly flashing ESP problem, which dissapeared)... :/

I would hazard a guess the timings of a little, who did the belt guys?

Yes but did he lock the cams of or just mark things up, as I had an issue going on for 2-3 years & it was all down to timing/cams/cambelt not being done correctly by the people I bought car of & took a proper anal mastertech friend of mine to correct by locking things in correct positions, now it starts perfectly & is hell of allot more responsive.
