If I remember correctly, yes, it's possible to retrofit a cup holder.
I was looking as I want to for a second.

It depends, the cup holder is bigger than the card slot so will have to either file the front down or the space on the hazard panel

I have just done the double din conversion and my standard cup holder doesnt fit, so im either gonna file it down or just put up with the card holder

My car has no cup holder... Just annoys me more than anything. I don't wanna move the armrest

Cup holders are a bit of an after thought in A3 design it seems. The one by the handbrake is too far back and you catch your elbow on the armrest and don't get me started on the armrest design lol!

I use it to put my pack of airwaves in, not good for much else
