hi ,
havent been on here for a while since i sold my s3 for a e46 m3. great car but fancied a change so going back to audi, was torn between b7 RS4 and S% but now iv decided on the S5 due to newer stlying better toys ect,
just looking arround for one seems to be hard as there arnt that many for sale! most are trade and the private ones seem to be over priced, looking to spend 18k on a 08 plate with reasonable miles do you think this is fair?

yh they look good, iv had my eye on the middle one before,it would have to be black and i would want a 08 onwards really but not too fussed if it can't be done. Another thing i noticed is most of the black ones come with red leather wich is fine but that was the same colour set up as my m3! really, would be after black on black.

also im still a bit unsure on the rs4! just purly for the preformance. am i correct in thinking that there is not that much in it in real world driving? also that the preformance of the s5 is on par with the e46 m3?

The Rs4 is a very nice Car, but costs abit more to maintain. It has things like Bucket Seats which the S5 doesn't have, the S5 has the Super Sport Seats. The S5 also has Led Daytime running lights where as the Rs4 doesn't.
The Rs4 is a little bit faster 0-60 and quite abit faster 0-100 too.

cheers that makes good reading, intresting that on paper the s5 is quicker and has better mpg than the m3! I think at the end of the day the preformance difference between the rs4 and s5 is not enough to justify getting the rs4 over the s5, so il definatly be looking for a s5!. back in the uk in march so hopfully ill have one by middle of march ill keep you posted!

Just a quick one iv read there are a few recalls/tsb's on the s5 any that i should check have been done before buying??

No direct experience, so please take what I say with a pinch of salt, but I've done a lot of reading re. S5s as I was looking at getting a V8 one myself.

-There was a recall on the clutch of the early models, apparently most were done so that should be ok.
-The LEDs in the early DRLs now seem to be giving up the ghost... no fix, 'toothless grin' is not a good look so new headlight unit. Audi won't honour that in any way, so that could be pricey. They knew it was coming as they changed manufacturer of the lights late in 2008/early 09 I think. You can tell the newer ones as those cars have the LEDs with a slightly bluer tinge.
-Some talk of the dreaded FSI carbon-build up, but seems very hit and miss (Incidentally, the carbon build up is considered responsible for lots of RS4s not making power, they tend to be around 380-400bhp, some cmpanies offering a de-coking service for c. £500).
-Only other 'problem' is that MMI wasn't standard. I've always considered Audi to be an 'option heavy' manufacturer, but not having MMI on their top of the range model (until the RS turned up) is ridiculous... almost as ridiculous as the people who spec'd the car without it.

My 2 cents. Try both, I did. The s5 nicer inside no question. Nicer dash. Seats better in rs4 the buckets are so comfy (unless your a large person). Performance there is a difference. The RS isn't much quicker but if the DRC isn't nakkered it nails it on the track. And it sounds better. Both great cars I went for RS4 but only couple of grand in price.... Depends what you want ultimately. (NB rs4 might have 4 doors. No way you are fitting anyone in the back so never use that as a deciding factor)
