Hesitation

Just bought an a3 turbo, and when accelerating it occasionally hesitates quite badly, yet if I'm in 5th on the motorway and accelerate, it's fine.
Any ideas on what it could be?

1998 1.8T, clutch seems fine though

Could be a coilpack, get it scanned with vcds to see if there are any faults.

It could be anything from a crap fuel to a full turbo rebuild from the information you've given so far.
