Jardo's 'Journey to quattro' - My Story...

I might have destroyed a 440bhp GT28 Leon today.

But not in the way you think. :/

Have we found out yet how he managed to over rev it?

Leaves a nice erm onesy? On the floor lol. Take it he's never bothered about track time with that zorst lol

Nope, it is his daily driver.

I expected this to be ****. And I have been ripping him for almost a year. The turbo was £70 second hand and he made the manifold himself...I mean come on!

To drive it below 5k it is identical to my K03s, torqey, smooth, quite quick and very "easy".

Above 5k it destroys your face with 30psi, then you flat/no lift shift to the next gear and instantly it happens again.

Unlike any other 400bhp+ big turbo car I have ever driven or been in it is totally relaxed and unintimidating. Anybody could jump in it and drive it.

It is the feather in Niki's hat and his favorite car. Which tells me all I need to know :)

They do love their cheap nasty tubbys up there don't they lol. Need welly to finish his build so we can have another example of epic cheapness.

Jardo will know what i mean when i say the no lift shift sounds like a machine gun going off in the back, the noise is epic and very addictive :)

So what we're saying here is jArDo can't drive, which I know already, and we should not let him 'test drive' our cars, which I doubt he ever will get a chance anyways....

it's not a gt28 really Sam, it's a £150 ebay turbo with a totally unknown spec, 0.63 stamped on the hot side, 3'' inlet, and a massive comp wheel that looks to be larger than that of a 3071.

Whatever it is it was clearly forged by god.

Fitting my bushes tomorrow which will hopefully rid me of my various squeaks, rattles, vibrations, whines and clunks.

And give you extra rattles/vibrations from being a lot harder lol.

I don't mind the engine vibrations, they are fine. It's the clunking of the dogbone front bush not actually being there, creaking lower arm rear bushes and exhaust smashing the shell and subframe where the front dogbone mount has fallen apart.

Poor car, it is feeling a little old at the moment.

Hopefully we can investigate my weird droning/whining which sounds just like the diff.

It's weird, the gearbox is totally silent sometimes, but then other times you lift off and get a clunk followed by a whining noise which sounds JUST like a diff bearing. But I don't think it is because it isn't there all the time.

The noise stays with the clutch depressed, in neutral or on over run. As long as you are off the throttle it is there, and there is a small rattle on acceleration. It isn't louder in any gears and is only below 3K...

:/

Does this flat shifting malarky have any downsides cos if not i'm gonna have to get me some of that good stuff at some point in the future :)

Replace the engine mount and see what happens with the whining noise, sounds like it could potentially be due to the shagged engine mount. My Passat used to drone when cruising at about 50, noise went completely when I changed the knackered engine mounts. I'm sure that was your plan anyway, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to say. Otherwise, good luck and I hope it's not the gearbox!

(Edit, when I say 'the engine mounts' what I really mean is 'the dog bone mount')

only down side is if you havent fitted RODS one will pop out and say HELLO :) i love no lift shift, its epic, highly addicive and makes me wanna take ron apart and fit rods, ko4 hybrid and get to King Prawn power

Oh wait, its happened hasnt it.....everyone said it would, you know, it starts with a filter and ends in major engine work and over 300bhp, ****, it wasnt meant to happen, honest Rachel lol

Bumbles got rifle drilled rods when welly built it back up so think this is something i will look into for the summer as breaking traction in these conditions is pretty easy even with normal shifting. Wouldnt want to see a rod come out my grey s3 though so i'll leave that for the girlfriend to use as she likes it better than her 60reg civic anyway, which says alot about our good old audis :)

Thread highjack over ;)

Bumble will take it, that filthy slag loves being ruined.

I will never forget the first time I went out in it, Welly too us to get some cigs and drove sooooo sedately to the petrol station and gently over a small roundabout.

He reached down and gently patted the gear knob and said "You're warm now babe, and you're about to get ****ed up."

Followed by some full throttle pulls and a total beasting on the totally stock and very worn brakes.

She has led a good life. I love her.

Even on a t25 flange it's decent. Gives me hope.

She still puts a massive smile on my face aswel :)

Welly built a really good engine and along with bills mapping she truly is a joy to drive.

Oh and i love the filthy slag too :)
