There to be starting a few threads of late so apologies for that.

The exhaust on my qts is in need of renewing. What are my best options? is a decat a worthwhile upgrade as well and how much work is it come mot time?

Some go for a custom system and move the cat onto a lower part of the system for easier access. I just got a 3" s4 milltek system and got the downpipe made up so have a full 3" system.

On mine i've got a standard S4 system, cut/modified to fit the stock downpipe.

The off-the-shelf systems are all wildly expensive, and an S4 exhaust will handle 260+ hp without a problem.

On the Avant i've got another stock S4 system lined up, but atm i cant decide if i should remake the downpipe in 3" and fit a sportcat in somewhere. Running without a cat isnt an option for me, its just too much hassle.

Cheers for the tips, I had been thinking of either getting a miltek or custom exhaust made but hadn't thought of modifying an s4 unit. Iirc the flexi is part of the down pipe and that needs replacing also. Maybe a full custom exhaust would be my best bet.

yeh, unfortunately the quotes i was getting for custom were also stupid. I think folk see "Audi" and double the price or something!

In the end i picked up a good nick S4 system for about 30quid, and paid £190 for a bloke in burnley (DCMS) to fit a new flexi (it was split), fit the S4 system and join them together with a suitably crafted piece of 2.5" stainless.

Its nice and quiet, but does sound a little bit more aggressive and also even pops a bit on overrun now and then.

The only niggle is that he hasnt left the joint between the system and downpipe, meaning i'm going to have to cut the ****** thing off when i'm next doing work under there that needs the exhaust out!

i have a used tqs centre section in OK condition if anyone wants one

I run a Miltek on my tqs (with high flow cat)
been on for 6yrs or so without trouble. nice noise, didnt see any seats of the pants improvement on power/delivery though

Could you possibly put up a video of the miltek thinking of getting one for my TQS

I put a Jetex system on mine. Was alot cheaper than Miltek, Neuspeed etc, but it didn't come with a downpipe, so I had to bodge up an adapter to get it to fit to the standard downpipe.

I used Jetex on my B2 Sport and B3 Sport, lasted 13 years on B2 ( B3 was sold after 4 years) and they both had a quiet refined 'burble', not at all noisey.

Yep I think the Jetex is really well made for the money. Abit louder than the original, but not annoyingly so. It also weighs alot less than the original, so the lardy/lethargic old TQS should go a tad faster. LOL.

i was going to start thread actually. etting my s/s finally dont on 4th march, undecided how many boxes, what inch etc.
having cat back and 3" downpipe is a cert, have a 3" de-cat sitting here, had the last 4 months but now mot is out the way i can get it on there,
so with the decat in mind do i go one single long box, or two smaller boxes? getting it done at a good rate via a mate, for £300

also undecided on the tail tip. thinking x2 2" round inward roll pipes to match standard system
current system has a cupra style tip

so any one comment on whats best? 2.5" 3" ? turbo is only a lil k03 but not to distant future will be a t3 or 28rs, so would like to do a little planning ahead now.
heard a few but they all sound different from one to the other

Get a 3" straight through with just the rear silencer and twin 3" rolled outlets like the milltek system, weres your mate based ill give him an extra 100 notes at that price for non-mates rates lol if he can do mine for that price when im ready for getting it done ??

kent mate, so bit of a drive. ill ask him tho. powerflow system, so dont know what there like but i guess there all almost the same.

yer ill ask and see how much it is. ive listened to 3" with a decat and its really loud. sounds good. but i want it quite for daily use. but nice growl when on boost. not sure if some thing like that is possible

The powerflow systems tend to use 2 bolt jap style connections like the type R ep3 has id personally preffer oem style ones, U-clamps or V-band. I was tempted to buy the 3" downpipe flange, flexi some stainless and have my mate bend to shape and weld as he works for Metool fabrication, but cant be bothered to id rather have someone competent who actually does exhausts for a living or even just shell out on a milltek and have done with it the last quote i got for 3" cat back was £800 notes from topgear stockport for that price id loose .25" and save £200 notes and just buy a milltek lol

the downpipe is easy to make, two 45 degree bends and a short peice of pipe. i can make my own for £220 but for the extra £80 i get it made properly and get lifetime warrenty.

i dont care id it uses u clamps, if it seals and works then no diffrence.

i worked out you need a little over 2.5 meters of pipe. 6 45 degree bends for system and two for downpipe. then a 100mm flexi

and then of course a box, but i have one that i was going to cut open. weld in a pef tube and repack with decent wadding.

what bhp is 2.5 good for? as long as itll flow 300bhp then thats what im hoping/aiming for in the future

Id say 2.75 or 3" for 300bhp+.

Hmm im temted with that info now :)

isnt the 2x 45deg bends for a down pipe from the turbo ??

From the cat. If you look down the pipe from the front your see a 45 degree and a bit of pipe would be fine. I see you got bigger turbo so maybe its harder cheapest place i found it was jpexhausts. I could get everything delivered for 189 pound

i just dunno if im keen on a 3" system.

Hmm il look in to this and add this thread to my reading list for future referance :) theres lots of exhaust sections on ebay so may do this route thats if my mate will weld it all together and i get it all marked up for him to just get the welding done and jobs a good un but let us no what your mate says and what type of clamp/connection he will use.

and dont forget those piccys when its all built ready to fit :) !!

So what you think. 4" oval or what you said 2 3" inward roll tips?

Yer defently get pics. So whats the deal with clamps. I could always ask. And if you supplied s/s vbands i guess he would weld them in. Ill defo ask. What you after? 3" all way from cat?

yeah 3" all way from cat and possibly sleeve clamps or mikalor style clamps instead of U-clamps were exhaust is slightly expanded and slots over piping.

Id go with twin 3" personally i think its pretty much the only style that suits the B5 body i was tempted to get a jap style 4" but id just regret it after a week so id stick to oem look.

I dont rate the slot an U- clamps they just tend to blow after a few thousand miles and the brackets tend to bend before the exhaust is even tight, 3" will be loud but then what do you put an exhaust on for :) if its too loud have a resonated box put in place of where the middle box would be.

got a quote back of powerflow in west midlands for £450.

Thats not a bad price. Is that 3" . And make sure they know the downpipe is part of the cat back as some dont know.

Im going to say i dont like u clamps but im only having two joints. Downpipe to middle an middle to rear. Ill also ill ask what price for 3" cat back

Yeah thats for 3" and id only want two connections also

heres what i specified -

Just searching around for estimates for a custom system for my 99' A4 B5 1.8T quattro sport, my spec needed is 3" downpipe from cat to include flexi, and 3" pipe work to non resonated centre pipe were existing middle box would be, and a rear silencer with twin rolled 3" outlets.

and he replied £450 the others were all around the £800 mark !!!
