Thinking of buying a tt for a bit of a play toy iv found on that on 51 plate and has covered 77000 miles is there anything I should be looking out for that's a common fault.

Get a 225 if you can find one at a good price, if you buy a 180 you will always wish for the 225.

Have looked at the 225 but the insurance is more and iv not found a good one yet.

When I started looking for mine I found that the 225 was far cheaper than the 180 for insurance

You should really hold out for the 225 or even the Quattro Sport with 240 if your going to be using it as just a toy.

Main things to check are cambelt and waterpump changed, also check the dashpod as they are expensive to get fixed if they fail (at least £700 for new one through Audi).

If you join up the TTOC I'm sure you get an insurance discount through LWIB insurance brokers. And I'm pretty sure the Mk1 TT can get classic car insurance so should be a bit cheaper as well

Cheers for the help there mate iv decided that I am going for the 225 now as I checked the insurance with a few different company's and its not as dear as I thought.

The V6 is the way to go if you don't mind the fuel bill. Insurance wasn't much more than my 1.8T A3!

225 is the best one, alot cheaper to mod, more bang for buck as they say. Yes the v6 sounds better but a tuned 1.8t is pretty impressive on full chatt :D

just get the best you can for your cash, with service history and low mileage.its hard to find a good 225 with low mileage.if you really want the twin pipe and valance then it will cost you £200,if you get a stage 1 remap you wont be far off a standard 225 for £270.Just get the best you can and dont get hung up too much on the bhp.just enjoy the tt experience.:racer:

I had a 180Q roadster for 4 years, always wondered if I bought the right variant but certainly never regretted it. Had a remap and it was nice and quick.
180 is still a hell of a lot of fun, might even be cheaper too.

i agree mate, and yes a 180 with a remap would be more economical than a standard 225,and with less turbo lag.

does anyone know were i can find a nice 225 coupe

I know where there is a nice 180 coupe 04plate, dark metallic Blue. not sure of price though.

the reason i say get the best you can is because you need to take into account the following
1.service history2.cam belt changed3.when you start her up and the temp gauge goes to half way does it stay their.4.check the roll bars arnt shot, common fault on a mk1 tt4.check all the dash lights work, recall on the dash for free at audi has finished.whether you buy a 180,225 or v6 a bad tt is a money pit and all the above need checking before purchase.
