Hi my clutch on my audi a3 sportback 2007 plate is sticking quite often now and it's hard to put it into and out of the gears.. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where the fault is? I've read about clutch master cylinder or the clutch bracket being reasons for this. Can anyone help me out and point me in the right direction? Il be very appreciated..

Have you had the brake/clutch fluid changed and bleed lately?

I'd get it checked & changed first before any major components

Hi not had the brake fluid changed but was advised on audi health check. Shall I get this done and can this be the cause?

Yes it can be a symptom, as can the slave cylinder & as said this is in the gearbox (hours of labour just to get to it to change)

Fluid change is much cheaper and should be done every few years anyway as it absorbs moisture & starts to compress. Not to mention safety issues with braking.

They can be a pain to bleed the clutches though... Not with a pressure/suction fluid change system...

That would be my first point of call

so my best bet is to change the brake fluid? and then get the clutch bled? roughly how much would it cost to bleed and change the fluid? also, how much is labour cost to change the cylinder? or can this be my clutch on its way out. it does judder on idle but thats probably the dmf??? any ideas

Yes I should have also said that at that mileage it could well be the clutch at the end of its life, juddering could well be the duel mass flywheel...

Was simply asking if you had changed the fluid as this often gets overlooked...

Changing the clutch or even just the slave cylinder is fairly major job... Lots of parts need to be removed... Most places will quote a time scale of around 6 to 8 hours plus the cost of the clutch, you'd really need to get quotes from your local dealer/garages.

Have heard figures from around £800-£1200!!! I got mine done at cost parts because I have a fantastic mechanic (around £400)

Try bleeding it first as said.

There is a clutch delay valve in the pipe between the master and slave cylinder. These have a habit of breaking in cold weather conditions giving the symptoms you describe, quite often overlooked.

i had this on my leon cupra r. It turned out to be the slave cylinder which was also inside the gearbox. i opted which would probably be wise for your mileage car, to change the clutch aswell at the same time. that is if you decide to go down that route.

Hi where is this delay valve? Any pics or guides as to find it.. If it is a major job, ie clutch change etc roughly how much would it cost for everything?

not too sure on the audi but for the leon it cost me £400 from a local vw audi approved specialist

no didnt touch the flywheel, just clutch, slave and master cylinder and labour costs.

Ok I checked my brake fluid and it was a little low off the max line.. I've topped it up and it seems to start working again :) just want to know where have I lost some of the fluid? Can't see anything external or under the car. Probably internal? All help will be appreciated

Had this on my TT, you can delay it all you want but somewhere in the next 10k miles you'll be needing clutch, slsve and master cylinder

You will be leaking it from the slave most probably onto the clutch

The master cylinder which is located under the clutch pedal is dry. Isn't the slave cylinder in gearbox? The car is on it's first clutch so will prob need doing soon. Will I have to top up the fluid now as well? I don't do many miles so 10k is alot of miles..

Just because it's dry dosent mean its not on its way out, would still be worth getting someone to have a look at it, normally brake and clutch share same reservoir so I wouldnt mess about

Hi did you get this solved? Iv changed the master the, valve and tge flywheel clutch and slave, it's not doing it as much and only returns half way, doesn't stick to the floor, can any one help, cheers
