Any opinions of AMD in Essex for remapping my S3?

I've had AMD stage 1 and 2 maps and couldn't fault them, they were helpful and seemed to know they're stuff

I went to Bill afterwards for a custom map (and will be for my next map) due to reconmendations on here and would reconmend him to anyone else and you will get the optimum out of you car safely, but I would still reconmend AMD for generic stage 1 and 2 maps although the figures as mentioned should be taken with a pinch of salt and only used to compare your own gains

I've also had a lean map with a stupid amount of boost from a big name tuner :faint: but won't get into that one ;)

I would also reconmend r-tech for generic and custom maps but have no personal experiance with niki

22Bhp from fans?

Yes. Bring your car here and I'll run with all fans running and then switch to just one and see the difference? In all honesty just one of our fans is bigger than either fan I have seen on the other rollers.

Also running a rolling road in "open air" rather than a dedicated cell means air just swirls around the front of the car rather than being chanelled through the engine bay. Its basic physics really?

So then everyone, who cares who posted it...but any guesses for who the "... right little **** who causes trouble all the time" might be?

I just have no idea!

This is interesting stuff and something that I've not really seem mentioned before. Would love to see some test results.

Prawn had meth, fans are almost irrelevant in the case I am making.

I could understand a small discrepancy but 22bhp on a car with meth which has been ultra reliable in every dyno run it has done seems a little far fetched.

For reference; I am not a fan boy and I am totally unbiased. If you developed a map tomorrow that would give me more power, more torque and more area under my graph then I would come straight to you for a map and tell everyone how great it is. I have never had any freebies or hand outs from R Tech, and I drive almost 7 hours each way to get there, it is far from convenient. The reason I do it is because currently R Tech's maps are the best.

I love the avoidance of the unsafe mapping comments.

I answered that by saying 80% of our customers are referral from existing customers I think? If customers weren't happy why would they recommend us?

I haven't seen a single engine blow up which was running an AmD map. You obviously know different than the man who owns and runs AmD?

We map cars safely and to the customers spec.

Have you had a car worked on by us or is it a "she said/he said" throw away comment?

I don't need to; I have seen the logs and don't like what I see. Whether they are isolated cases or a rare occurence doesn't matter to me, because they have happened and I wouldn't want to take that risk.

My original comment still stands; why would I trust somebody with my car when I see so many basic faults being over looked and their measurement tool not being set up properly? The dyno IS your proof of the product, and it is so far out from everybody else that when people post an AMD dyno sheet it is just shrugged off as inaccurate.

I am not like the 80% who just give a tuner my car and ask them to make it better then pick up the bill two weeks later. I like to do my research, build my car appropriate to the things which work and then have it mapped by whoever is the best at that time. And it's worked pretty ****** well for me, certainly smoother and safer with more torque and power than any K03s car thats come from AMD that I've ever seen. (On somebody elses rollers)

Do AMD do custom mapping then or only Revo?

If it's only Revo there is not a lot that AMD have to work with..

I'd really rather not be used as leverage in an argument please mate. Whether relevant or not, I'd prefer to be kept out of it in that respect. I only corrected your previously mentioned figure, because I dislike wrong things

Shaun, I did try to remain fairly impartial in my comments, I expressly stated that my thoughts were not necessarily the case for all AMD maps, and that I'm sure you'd be more than capable of doing the job, but I felt more than confident in expressing my concerns based on my own personal experiences.

I have personally seen and logged AMD mapped cars producing upwards of 26psi from a stock ko4, with the thermal protection kicking in due to high EGT's, map readouts pegged at 2550mb across the board and a mechanical gauge showing 27psi. This to me seems somewhat risky on a stock engine. I am not suggesting for a minute that all AMD maps are like this, but can only report my own findings.

Are we also to assume then, that the ibiza which melted a piston recently was mapped elsewhere? EDIT: Yes, it was. - user error

Every mapper I speak to has to say something about how ugly another mappers maps are.
Wonder how far megasquirt has advanced now, I fancy a go myself!!

I see the logs every day and I'm more than happy. Glad that you are happy with your car.

If you search through any forum you won't find me posting on there saying how "so and so's" map didn't get any power, was smokey, ran too rich, ran too lean, etc. I could do because every week we get at least 2/3 cars which have already been mapped and have some or these faults.

I also get cars come in that are running fine and despite being asked to map the car we say whats on there is running well.

Why people on forums have to set themselves as so called experts and slate everyone except who they use I'll never understand?

As already mentioned we are happy with our work at AmD.

AMD remap - A4 1.8T sport 190

The stories are endless and all have a connection in overboost and AFR faults.

If anybody reading this thread wants to think I am a "trouble making little ****" they are more than welcome to their opinion; but at the end of the day there is no smoke without fire. So far all I have heard is that AMD have big fans which make 22bhp more, and that they do map their cars safely and are happy with them. When lots of information I have seen is not so clear cut.

Hopefully Shaun might realise that actually not everyone IS happy with AMD and they could do things better, business is always evolving and all that jazz.

I feel the points I have made are valid and uphold themselves, certainly not an irrelevant rant.

Poor Jardo may have to apologise as if he gets any more airflow, the only rollers capable of reading his car will be the 1000bhp ones at AMD :beerchug:

I assume the Ibiza you are talking about is Nicks who works here?

He bought the car with REVO on it and decided to, stupidly, adjust the actuator to get more boost. Not a mapping issue just a young lad who decides more boost is the answer to all his lifes problems! Not the first time, and won't be last time someone ignores my advice!

Fair enough, that's a perfectly reasonably explaination Shaun. Thanks.

So long as people are happy, and engines are not blowing up, then I wish you all the best.

AMD Essex have always been helpful to me, have been using them since 2009 and will carry on using them even though I've got full APR gear and they are not an APR agent.

I cannot fault their workmanship nor their customer care.

It may be an interesting read. As always theres 2 sides to every story.

This company started remapping other cars than 106's a couple of years ago. They say they use the same maps as us when people call them.

We mapped this car with Stage 1 and the customer was happy. We mapped to Stage 2 upgrade at a later stage and the customer left happy and so were we.

We never got to see exactly what the problem was with this car as it was read out by this company and remapped by them, which seems a strange thing to do. Why wouldn't you bring this back for us to check if you had paid us for the work?

I refunded him his Stage 2 map anyway.

My honest opinion is that they tried to read out of it to see what we did then made up a **** and bull story when the ecu locked out so had to remap it anyway? We'll never know.

As is always the case on the internet theres more to it.

Good customer service on your part then, hats off where it is due.

Some of the confusion comes for me with things like the recent S3 you stage 2'd for a guy off this forum with standard side mounts, you have said yourself that your fans offer massive cooling and flow ans that at the time it was ****** freezing. So what assurances have you got that out on the road now it is 10* his car is running spot on? Or are you relying on stock ECU adaptions to pull the timing, EGT and AFR into line?

To me it seems like a bit of a risk stage 2 mapping a car without the consistency of cooling a front mount gives.

I am sure you find it "a giggle".

We map approx. 90 cars per month and I am sure that we have issues with cars. I haven't looked at these threads but as I deal with customer complaints and don't have to deal with many then I conclude we are satisfying 99% of our customers. If we do have a problem we sort as efficiently and quickly as possible.

As you say "theres no smoke without fire" but with the internet if "trolls" have an agenda to create "smoke", as you seem to, then good luck to you.

Have you ever had work done by us? If not then how can your "opinion" be worth anything as its just hear say.

I have no problem with you saying I love "Nicki" or "Badger Bill" can have my children but don't drag AmD into your world.

You'd be quite right if we didn't run it on the road before and after to check? As we do then thats irrelevant.

It is fine to map a car to Stage 2 without a front mount exactly the same as its fine to do that with standard rods. As with all things, everyones got an opinion and that is mine.

Its better to have FMIC in the same way that its better to have a Porsche. Nice but not essential!

Great attitude, good work.

So all my points still stand because your response to my questions and comments is that because I haven't had any work done by you I can't have an opinion.

The internet is a far too valuable as a tool for you to just shrug my comments off because you're kind of a big deal and you map 90 cars a month. 1000's of people will read this thread and others when researching where to take their car and if I was an outsider looking in it doesn't look good.

With regards to not getting many complaints, every thread I seem to find that picks fault is corrected by another tuner because people have had their fingers burnt and don't want to go back. That's my logic anyway, and everything I read seems to support it.

My agenda is nothing other than to educate people in the hope that they don't get issues; AMD has shown incompetence countless times and if I am asked for an opinion on an open forum I am going to give it.

Thank you for appreciating I am "a big deal"!

You can twist my words any way that you want but I am still happy that the vast majority of our new customers are from referrals from existing customers. This is about the only way I can gauge my business alongside turnover and profitability. I suppose my enjoyment of what I do also comes into it? And before you ask I do enjoy what I do!

Obviously you can't appreciate anyone elses opinion other than your own so you keep posting away.

Cheers Shaun.
