Cambelt - How much to pay?

How much should I expect to be charged for a cambelt change if I supply the parts? I'll get the water pump, tensioner etc done at the same time

to get the timing belt with waterpump and tensioner and the aux belt and tensioner done the labour was £103.50

I had this done and supplied parts, only 2 weeks ago. I called a lot of local garages and the cheapest I was quoted was £120. But then also had a problem with a gasket so had to get a new one of them so it all total'd up to £140. This didn't have any VAT somehow.. however I didn't realise until I didn't receive a receipt or anything when I went to pick up the car, so you might want to add VAT onto that..

Your probably looking around 300 all in whatever way you split the labour vs parts cost.

I think mine came to around £260 all in but that was with the full kit which is around £30 more then a standard kit.

Not a bad price for peice of mind and don't mind paying for someone else to do it, it's not hard to time the 1.8t its just a ***** to get it on and done.

I started to do it myself.... Then I realised that if I ****** it up, then I'd only have my self to blame,.. and a blown engine. So I put the bumper back on, made a brew and called the experts!

Also, I only paid £118 for parts.. including pulleys and tensions, waterpump etc.

i paid £130 (inc coolent temp sensor) for genuine parts on trade and fitted my self

a average price is around £300 around my area

Great deal that mate, is it a garage or a friend that does work for you? The quote I got is for cambelt water pump pulleys and fan/aux belt. I know Mac, been to JP exhausts many times over the years!

I paid £432 at vag specialist (all in inc. vat) and seems I was bent over, although they use genuine audi parts.

Included:
Cambelt kit
Water pump
Auxiliary belt
Coolant

This all seems very cheap to what I've been quoted in the past . Try living in Nottingham ! Before I made friends with a couple of good mechanics I got quotes for my old 1.8t a3 quattro and average prices of £500+ . I sold it few weeks later. I reckon one of my mates which are half decent mechanics would do it for about £300-£350 all in.

Has anyone used a Gates Kevlar timing belt? Seems steep at £65 but would it provide piece of mind? Would it be overkill on a daily with eventual Stage 2?

I was looking into this recently and spoke to awesome gti who stock them and they said they had heard a few of the kevlar ones had failed so they say just get the normal one.

I got a brucie bonus as i just found a bill in my history for the complete cambelt job tensioner and waterpump from audi main dealer at it was done only 20k ago so think i should be good for a little while yet so

Just had mine done a couple of days ago, full cambelt kit and waterpump - £350 all in.

Didnt do the dampener as had this done on the last cambelt 40k ago.

My Audi A3 1.9tdie - 2008 has done 43k miles. Got a text from local Audi garage mentioning about Cambelt change. I think it is either 5years or 75,000 miles whichever comes first. My question is, do I need to get it changed ASAP like this month or can I hold it for next few months. Car has done 5years this month.


Here it seems the total cost for (Cambelt kit, Water pump, tensioner and Auxiliary belt) is around in between £300 - £350.

Any trusted independent garage recommendations in Midlands please?

Mines being done tommorow ,
have a mate who's an audi tech and we are doing cam belt kit , water pump , thermostat , coolant temp sensor , cam position sensor , oil pump pick up and serpentine belt all of which I've supplied at a cost of a couple of hundred quid an the price for fitting ?

I had mine done just after christmas, all in all it was around £230 (parts and labour).
That was a garage in Macclesfield, Cheshire. I'm not sure how far away you are, but I could PM you a link to them.

Also, no. You don't have to rush out this month and get it changed. Although it's 5 years old, chances are, it's not going to snap before 1st May. I think if you schedule it in to your budget, and find a good quote over the next month or so, you should get it done.

There's no point in breaking the bank and getting a naff deal, just because you got a message from Audi saying it's ready for a change.

It's up to you, though.

I've just got my cam belt done - Places where I am wanted 400 for the cam belt or with the tensioner, water pump and belt it was 570+!!!!

I called up a old friend, He offered for £300 dead - Cam belt, Water pump, Tensioner, Coolant and a oil change. Still expensive but cheaper than the rest.

I think a lot of garages over charge beacuse they know its an important part that needs replacing.

I remember getting mine done at the end of 2010 at AMD Essex.

I think my total bill was about £550 but I had them check out a few other issues on the car and also had a service.

Looking at there website though a cambelt and water pump change costs £369.95 all in - so I wouldn't expect to pay anything more than that tbh.
