after a few hurs reading up on the ESP button and people turning it off for some "fun" i urned it off just as i was leaving work, turned up the hill and booted it, almost did a 360 in middle of the road!! i had skid marks not on the road, but in my undies!! jesus christ! never expcted that!!

what exactly does the ESP do???

i know its traction control, but i do that road and manouvre every day, never once felt like i was going to lose control like i did today.

it also fills and paints undies when off

Lmao Paul, im sure glad i wasnt on the same road as you today. :) x

that made me laugh

turning it off lets you get the power down
just dont do it full boot round corners

ESP stands for Electronic Stability Programme. This monitors the speed, steering angle, throttle settings and has sensors on the car suspensions linkages. This will back off the throttle or apply braking adjustments to wheels to attempt to keep the car on the road when the car is driven close to its limit.

Do you have any sensor issues at all?
Naturally if you always drive with your left hand on the handbrake and right hand hanging on the wheel, the ESP will be constantly correcting you. Turn ESP off and your back to right arm down handbrake up and voila! 360 :D

Crazy little button that is! Haha I'm going to put a warning sticker on it and some baby wipes in the door pocket for next time

Unless its a very wet day, I vary rarely have the ESP on, I just feel like the car responds to me, rather than the car correcting what I do, in heinsight, I'm in charge, not the car lol!

I drive with it off 100% of the time its the 1st button I press once the cars running as its too corrective when your wanting to have some fun.

yeah I don't have an s4 :( so its a must thing to go off to have any fun :p, now im on coil overs too its like im in a go cart :p roundabouts don't even see me go around them grip is phenomenal with new suspension. would love a S4 with ESP off tho :p

i dont want an s4, i want a 30 tdi,
i cant go round a roundabout more than once without having to pull into a petrol garage and if theres a petrol garage on the roundabout its worse:Flush:

you know what! its not even any where near as bad as i expected it to be on fuel, i dont drive like a granny, and i put £82 ish for a full tank, and i went from halifax,to hull, to york, to leeds, to bradford, to halifax, to hudersfield, back to halifax, in one day and still had over a 1/4 tank left!! thats not bad going for a 4.2L at all!!

you boot this car about town especially when every street has toll humps i mean speed humps NO I MEAN TOLL HUMPS and when you see your doing 120 miles for £82 then you will be whistling a different tune. if you have to do it daily then your be bissing into the wind..

Haha to be honest, it's something you expect, it's. 4.2 not a 1.2. I'd pay £80 for 80 miles because for them 80 miles I'd have 80 smiles! (and I'm a poet and I didn't even no it). The sound alone is worse the running costs! Luckily I don't live far from work, then I don't work far from my gym, so my day to day commute is work, gym, home, it's not too taxing! Then on the long runs on a weekend it's not bad at all!

Its like buying a jet ski and not using it I case you get wet, your bound to, you buy a s4 you make friends with the local petrol station and get a points card haha

good point,
i think my local station is called s4, i said the same thing, ill pay a £ a mile for the smile.
i think i might have to get the missus a diesel golf for the toll humps and mine for the nice journeys.
it is a big smile with that gurgel out the back.
and you might have talked me into sticking with it.

keep it, you know you love a wolf in sheeps clothing! Motorway, subarus flashing you to move away, foot down and where is mr Subaru? A little dot making a big noise coming no where haha. Just DON'T TOUCH THE ESP BUTTON!!!!

I only know what subaru's look like from the front and backwards. Hahaha
