Debadged and took the lacquer off!!

Ok so on Saturday i decided to take off the A3 and 2.0TDI badges off the back using dental floss.

Badges came off easy but oh my days the glue wouldnt! Used 'Sticky stuff' remover and a Spatula numerous times and it still wouldnt budge! Never had this problem before! So i had the choice of either leaving it on and it looking a mess or scraping it off with a knife!

I knew using a knife would take the lacquer off, which it did, but thought it would look less noticable than the glue.

I've used T-Cut to try and smooth it but still looks a bit shoddy so i was wondering what else could i use and if there is nothing else, could i just get the lower part of my boot lacquered fairly cheaply to rectify?

I used Farecla G3 and plenty of elbow grease to clean mine up after I moved the badges up and in a little! it took a few attempts to get it looking right though.

if you have taken the lacquere its a repaint, A good body shop will be able to do a part respray on the damage area and blend it in.

I've Debadged before but its been easy compared to this. It was like someone put the badges on themselves and used No-Nails or something.

How much do you think it would cost approx? Not had any spray work done for a looooooooooooooong time!

Lol I just used white spirit... took the glue straight off and left no marks whatso ever and still nothing and that was 6 months ago. Knife... 0_o !!

Yeah it just wouldnt budge! It didnt look like normal glue either,Well,not what ive been used to in the past!

When i de-badged mine i simply used a spatula/scraper and leaved the badges off the car.

Once this was done it left the adhesive from the badges, i used UPVC cleaner to take the majority off and they polished the rest off. Personally i wouldn't use T-Cut as you can achieve the same just using different grades of polish.

And with views on the re-spray you more than likely will have to get the full door painted, as blending would be a nightmare.

I'm due to replace chrome Audi decals on rear and front bumper as I've purchased high gloss black replacements however...... after so many conflicting opinions and reports on 'how to' remove existing decals I stopped and decided to get professional detailers to do the job when the car goes in for detailing work in April...... Its the boot so hopefully because of the part where the boot has the line above the plate it should be easier to blend! Fingers crossed if it needs doing!

Even some chicken thin wire from a diy store can cut the foam backing away from the badge, then use a caramel wheel to remove all the sticky residue, then just quickly rub over with a cleaner, then polish with some G3.

Caramel wheels are used by professional bodyshops, to remove the sticky foam tape to fit new trim etc parts that have these to fix to the car.

Haha to be honest i did think about putting them back on until i got it sorted!

Hair dryer and WD40.

In fact I washed the car with WD40 to get rid of tar spots. It was superb. Followed that with a snow foam, rinse, shampoo, rinse, dry and polish. WD removes anything sticky and is not too harsh. Just be careful around the wheels!!!!!!! Discs dont like it!!!!

Buy a new ring badge, paint it then stick, trying to fit new sticky tape to the shape of the rings would take ages considering the rings arent exactly expensive overall.

I took mine off and painted them black. Used those number plate sticky pads to reattach it - but it did take ages to cut the adhesive into the correct shape and to look neat! managed it though.

I'm planning to dip my whole car by the end of next weekend so I'll make a thread on how that goes. I'm doing the same thing atm... Iv debadged the whole back and looking to dip my rings black then remount it back on but I can't seem to find any 3M adhesive anywhere. What glues are u guys using to put it back on?
