What have you done today?

Typical just ordered it! got a mate at audi to order the black washer cap.

The black washer cap is to small for the B5.
If it's the one from the older Audi. It only fits the TT.

Black washer cap ??? Off what model ?? The B7 has the black power steering cap and bottle (not sure which model) but just dont no if its compatible with the B5 the cap should be just would like to fit both of them !!

The black power steering cap failed when I ordered one. Turned out go be green.
So I plasti dipped it. Lol

Today i put all my problems aside and went on the hunt for bits and bobs.
Now have a working cup holder, 312 carriers to fit, bigger washer bottle ready to retrofit headlight washers, vented s3 wheelarch liner to aid air flow to the intercooler, and a piano black cubby hole and hazard trim panel!

Today was a good day!

Busy busy man.
The vented wheel arches should help with the 312.

Replaced the rear axle bushes with the gracious help of Byzan :salute:

one down side is that I can now hear that one of the rear bearings is really noisy...

:banghead: will it never end....

Gutted mate.
you got the bearings and discs together like me?

Do it.
Do them all.

Fronts are still good, no issues there as I replaced them when I did the arms.

Oh and on a side note. Manged to figure out what the little toggle was hanging off my handbrake grip...

Lets just say the grip stays put now :D

Just swapped my golf for a b5. Due to needing a bigger boot. So just got thermostat sorted cv joint done. And got some coilovers, badgless grill headlights, bonnet bra, headunit, surround for new unit, exhaust on its way. Just looking for some wheels. Set of 18s so i can slam it and then shot some spacers on back. Then after tht rear discs and pads front manifold gasket and one for down pipe and imduction kit. Or and slight rust on wing to sort. Nxt few months im guna be busy and skint.

After posting on Bradderz TQS bearing thread, I thought I'd post an update on my doings up here.......

So, since Christmas, I have changed a rear wheel bearing on my saloon - OEM removed, probably original at 129,000ish miles - not bad - and a FAG from All German!

Mrs PaulFs' Avant has has a rear and a front done - AGAIN!!! The rear was about 15,000 miles old and let go (very wobbly, hub and shaft not damaged), so it needed to be done there and then. Unfortunately I had to get a First Line part - we'll see how it lasts. The front was done about 20,000 miles ago, and was howling like a moany woman. I've fitted a FAG from All German, so it should outlast the car now.

I've also been doing more turbo adjustments on the Avant - I'm trying to get figures together for a 'How to' for the stop screw and actuator rod. It's been hard though as you have to run at 3000-4000 RPM in 3rd/4th gear, which is 60-80 MPH - not good in the snow and ice omn country roads!

More sticky brake issues, again, reconditioned parts fitted within the last couple of years, so have just got up two front calipers from All German for the Avant, I'll worry about the saloon later.

My tractor (Zetor 4WD) decided to play silly buggers and die after I had snow-ploughed the road a couple of weeks back. New fuel filters, cleaned out the diesel pump governor, checked and cleaned the diesel pump metering unit, fitted a new hand primer and blew the fuel lines and tank out.
I now have no snow trouble in the drive!

Been busy mate.
Be interested in your how to when its done.
I keep meaning to do logs of mine now it appears to be working and compare.
I might do it tomorrow.

I made my own iPod dock out of a cup holder.

Looks like a normal B5 dash. Nothing special.

Oooo ipod dock in the cup holder.

I've had a productive(ish) few days.

On friday:

Swapped the Winter tyres onto the Avant (yeh, i should have done it months ago, but didnt) for a trip to aberdeen next week. Gave both sets of wheels a really good clean while they were off.

Been trying really hard to tidy my garage out, listing unneeded spares on ebay and junking crap, which resulted in a trip to the metal yard with 100kgs scrap metal, netting me £18.

I spent several hours modifying the grilles on the S4 bumper on the Avant to make them fit round the intercooler pipes. This essentially involved grinding away the back of the grille until it cleared. Unfortunately i made things difficult for myself by seperating the two halves of the drivers side grille. On the passenger side i left them attached and just ground away at it until it fitted which was far more sensible.

While tidying i came across the arm rest i got from Scott at ADI, so i set about fitting the in place of the broken one on the avant. Fairly easy job, the new one was cream and had broken "foot" so i swapped the black lid over, and fitted it to the original foot, and bolted it back together. Will toss the old broken one on ebay and no doubt someone will buy it for parts or whatever.

Today was a bit less productive as i became glued to the couch after lunch for a bit too long...

However i did some more tidying (my dustbins almost full to the top already i've chucked that much crap) and came across the three door strips i removed from the avant i broke, so decided to install them onto shed in place of the rotten ones that were hanging off, so its now looking a bit tidier! Just a pity i only had three, as the remaning original one now looks rubbish!

Treated shed to an oil change, and tightened the jubilee clip on the PAS cooler that was leaking.

Fitted a rear shock to the landrover.

More tidying still to do though, and still a few bits to finish off with the Turbo Conversion on the Avant (which incidentally i havent written up yet!)

Finished my RNS-E faceplate today, hope to get it fitted tomorrow.

Started with an A3 faceplate

Chopped top & bottom and added extra plastic to the sides, used a bit of humbrol model filler for the gaps & imperfections

Fitted the nav today and sorted out the rest of the installation, but the first thing to get sorted out my faulty DIS so set to yesterday evening, got a unit a few weeks back off ebay for £25. They are a bit of a ****** to solder but looks so much better as I was missing around 50% of my pixels.

During the install I also fitted Bluetooth, Audi Music Interface and a Kufatec IMA.

As the standard AMP on the B5 is rubbish, I have fitted an AMP from the later B7 platform, and have ran the front speakers to the AMP. I also have fitted the Aerial system from the B6/B7 platform, as I hate the roof aerial, so have fitted an Audi A6 shark-fin GPS/BT Antenna.

Next to do is to replace the speakers, and sort out the CarPC project.

It's from an Audi A6 C5 model it's for Nav & BT only, so with the old Aerial remove I retrofitted the Aerial system from a B6 Avant, I know the B6 has screen printed aerial wires in the glass, So I have run wires around the blacked out edges of the glass for the side windows & rear window.

Bit late for that innit?
Its summer soon.

Any thing left from the B5 breaker?

Did you keep the fog lights or remove them?

Took you long enough to fit that lol.
I wonder what a broken Arm rest goes for.
I wonder what my faulty double din dash goes for.

That's the plastic or metal ones?
I need to new front ones. :(
Might buy a set off ebay.

This the land rover that is a long on going project?

What was you doing to it?
a normal turbo or a uprated one?

Yeh, i meant to fit them in december, but the car was off the road with its broken turbo, so i didnt bother. Then once it was back on the road the weather seemed to improve, so i didnt bother. Then it snowed, so she took mine to work (which did get its winters fitted in december) and crashed it into the gate. Then the weather got better, so i didnt bother. Then it snowed again.... (i see a pattern here :p). Given i'm going to aberdeen this weekend i figured i better fit them, if i didnt then ofcourse it would snow like mad and i'd be stranded under 20ft of the stuff. Because they're on i wont see a drop.

Few odd bits, putting them on ebay, see my link in sig.

Removed them unfortunately.

Yeh, more lazyness. Dont really care tbh, i'll put it on at a 99p start and see what happens. If it doesnt sell it'll go in the bin or someone on here can have it for nowt.

I think they're metal, they seemed bendable, but unlike the original ones they werent rusty and knackered. The ones on the car literally dissolved when i tried to remove them. I'm just annoyed that i wrecked the drivers door one trying to get it off the breaker!

This the land rover that is a long on going project?
Yeh very long project. Audis seem to take up all my time and money so i've not touched it in over a year! I got the other shock fitted on Sunday, and installed the new heavy duty drag link on the front end. Then started undoing things i've already done as the balljoint on the A frame on the rear axle was all perished (its not even been on the road and it was knackered!) because i bought a really cheap chitty one. I've got a nice lemforder to replace it now. Old one needs pressed out though.

What was you doing to it?
a normal turbo or a uprated one?
Its a beachbuggy hybrid, 2280 compressor (Focus RS) and RS6 turbine.

That's the saloon full inspection service + air filter done.

I've also changed the duff passenger heated washer jet for a new one, and had to change the winter tyres over a month early - hit a ****** great boulder going to Costco for the oil the other day and wrecked the wheel + tyre!
Not happy as I expect it in my road, not on the main road at 60MPH but by the time I get another 15" wheel and new snow tyre I'll be changing over anyway. Ho hum - at least no other damage done.

Front calipers on the Avant next, and her drivers heated jet! (both 'in stock' at home)

That's what I did. I must say I was surprised that it worked, although like you the light came back whenever it was cold so I just reset it each time.

I eventually got fed up and bought another module from the scrappy, coded it with VCDS

Nice one for the link B5NUT... might give it a go

Did yo get any pix of the inside of console so I have an idea of what to expect from soldering point of view?
any tips?

Well i finally got round to replacing the steering rack for the later TQS non damper one, feels just like my old rack, now i just need to reset the tracking (ran out of time) as the steerling wheel is off centre to the other side to the other rack going to do this one day next week on my dinner the sooner the better, and im going to try sulli79's suggestion of tightening the steering rack power steering box on the rack as its got the knock/rattle when you shake the wheel with the engine off, as i had the battery off and the car was bouncing under and up to the idle speed when dipping the clutch coming to junctions its been doing this for a while but was worse today after having the battery off, ive changed the idle speed adaptation and carried out a throttle body adaptation, ive also managed to have another ****ty cheap **** ballast go on me im sick off these cheap HID kits there ok for couple of months but tend to let go very quick but thing is ive butcher'd the access caps so cant put normal H7's in or some ultra white H7's id prefer some RS4 Xenon units but there expensive as **** i also adjusted the brake light switch as the pads were grabbing before i could see the high level lit when giving it welly and constantly braking.

oh and courtesy of Scottb5 ive sent my grill off to him to plastidip i havent got it yet but thought id show you a taster lol will post pics when fitted to.
