Hey all just joined this forum.

Im about to go and look at an audi A3 tomorow its an 06 , sport back version , 1.9 tdi Sport , im guessing its the 104 bhp ??

What should i be looking out for fault wise ?

its done 80k has FSH and is on at 4.8k , which is a good price from what ive seen.??

Would anybody reccomend this model or should i wait for the normal hatchback ? also are these engines powerful ? as ill be coming from a 150 sri astra 1.9 cdti. will i feel a massive difference ??

Ill be very greatful for anybodys help.

Thanks!

Dont understand by what you mean in the way of normal hatchback or are you referring to a 3dr. The 1.9 TDI is a worthy car mate and returns good MPG. The 2.0 TDI is better but more expensive. Best thing to do is get it remapped and you'll be roughly at the same power of your last car and it will be better to drive, more responsive and alot more fun.

Oh i take it the sportback is just the 5 door version ? wondered why they gave it a different name i thought it was also a little bit bigger.

Do you have any idea on what to check especially ? thanks

Assuming you're buying from an Audi dealership then get them to do a diagnostic scan and give you a print out - just in case any future problems arise. That will show any faults that may be around.

As said, the 2.0 tdi is better for performance and can be mapped to 250+bhp if necessary !

Not from an audi dealership but from a trader, its had the pump and belt done with full audi history.

Then get them to pay for a scan or tell them you're going to take it for one and they should pay for it. Audi charge anything up to £100 depending on who it is !

reg and colour ?
the 1.9 will chip but it needs more care, i.e. a quality company !!
Any warranty?
Daughter has had one for the last 5 years - just changed it for a 2k miles Black Edition S Line...... recently had an alternator bearing break up ( new alternator was £400 incl labour!!) other than that she did 50k without a hitch, new pads, tyres, Rear brake shields were very rusty, really needed replacement but that requires a total strip down including bearings apparently -- dealer had never seen anything like it !

Its just a trader but it apparently does have full audi history and it's on 78k miles, also it's had the belt and pump done.

and it's an 06 in black. Thanks!

I think its deffinently an upgrade from an astra , my mate had a 1998 old audi a3 and the drive was probably better than my 06 astra now ! so i have high expectations for this one! , i keep chopping and changing cars but i hope the audi is going to be a keeper :)

there is a lot of work and ££ needed to map a 2.0tdi 140bhp to 250bhp mate stage one map after a fair bit of mods has only
got me 182.3bhp, ive seen a 170bhp being mapped and it reached 205bhp after dof removed and milltek turbo back

Ah - sorry about that, bit ambitious eh ? Anyway I'm sure the 2.0L can be bumped up a bit if necessary to make it as quick as his previous beast !!!

Not sure about the 1.9L though. ?

I was told that the 1.9 would chip to about 135bhp - up about 30bhp with a similar increase in torque. That would bring it up the 2.0 TDi levels. Economy of the 1.9 is ok, think daugter said she regularly got 50 + mpg and 55/56mpg on a long main road/motorway journey - she's a careful driver, thinks ahead but doesn't hang about - I was recently a bit surprised at how much she doesn't hang about !!!

just a bit ahead of yourself with the 250bhp
2.0TDI is economical average 40+ mpg when driving hard and maximum of around 48-50mpg when on a motorway run and thats with the performance mods i have done (read my sig), my brother in law has a 1.9tdi which ive driven and after being in mine it seems low on power like theres something missing but only your opinion matters ...

I have got one. Vastly underpowered for such a heavy car. Remap it and it will need a new clutch in the not too distant future. It will feel very slow when coming from a 150 BHP vauxhall.

Sound cheap though. I personally would save up more and get a 2.0tdi. Economy is about the same as I have has both. I got around 45mpg over 10k miles

The 1.9 is pretty bomb proof though and does not seem to suffer a lot of the issues the 2.0 does.

If your not after a speed machine then get one
