CD changer install

After a week or so of having my car I started having a good route around getting familiar with storage/cubby holes etc, I noticed that in the boot on the L/H side, there was a gaping hole with just an electrical connector hanging, after doing a little research I realised it's where the CD changer lives. I happen to come accross one, complete with bracket and screws on eBay, so I bought it. Having a bash at fitting it today, I really struggle to see how it all fits in that space? Looking at the mounting points on the bracket, they don't seem to marry up with what I have in the car? I've electrically connected the CD changer up and it fires up fine, can eject cartridge the lot, so I'm a bit confused tbh, is there different brackets for different models? The car it came from was an A4 '99 1.8 petrol.

avant and saloon mountings are different, and theres also PFL and FL differences, at least on the saloon.

TBH the stock changers are ****e, very few still working at this age, i wouldnt waste my time on it.

I don't think that's a PFL CD bracket you got there mate.

This is my CD bracket.

Yours might be from a Saloon.
I'm 99% sure its not an Avant unit.

I do agree with Aragorn though.
The changers are a bit poo and are failing a lot at the moment.
Personally, I'd ditch it and go for a B6 glove box unit if you really want one.
But, since you have it and it works. we might as well help you get it fitted and if it does break we can help you fit a B6 unit.

it's defo facelift saloon it's same as mine.

I've got a Sony changer bolted to bottom of the rear shelf in my saloon, married up to the double din symphony hard unit as my old audi changer died and I had the Sony one as it came out my old car.

as Aragon say stock cd changer wasn't , much good anyway

Can anyone help us source a PFL Avant CD changer bracket.

I'll take your word that their a bit pony, but it works... for now, so I'll bang it in and see what's what. I mainly use my iPhone via the tape player anyway.

if you use your iPhone then why not consider getting an adaptor that would use your cd changer input but connect to your iPhone.

connects2 do a range of adaptors to allow you to connect things to standard head unit , that's how I've connected a Sony changer to standard head unit.

That's not a bad shout to be fair. The sound quality isn't great anyway so when you play music through a cassette it sounds very fuzzy but at certain volumes it doesn't appear that apparent. So where would this iPhone cable enter the cabin from as the OE head unit is an interference fit in the center console?

the cable would use the cd input so you route the cable out the rear and up trough centre console etc, but wherever to suit where you put your phone etc

I use the Xcarlink for my iPod and it works really.
It keeps the plug for a changer if you ever wanted to plug it in again, I'm tempted to get one.
It also has a Aux in and if pay you a bit more it ccmes with Bluetooth hands free.

Managed to find a PFL Avant bracket on eBay, well from the pics it looks like the tabs would line up with what I have so...?
