Hi guys,

my audi a4 2.5 tdi v6 1998 afb has been sitting on the drive after some guy decided to pull out off a giveway without looking.. anyhow since upgrading the turbo to a gt2559v, cummings nozzles and large front mount intercooler and only driving it for a week before the accident, the car has been parked up for over a year.

just got round the other day sorting bits out and fired her up and got the oil light symbol come up and at the same time the revs counter needle drops to zero.

checked the oil pressure and that's fine, plugged vagcom in and no faults, did a test on the instruments and everything is working fine too. i cleaned all the earthing points near the alternator but the same. strange thing is sometimes the revs counter needle will kick back to normal idle rpm and slight change in engine noise and the oil light goes off too.. and cars out of limp mode i think, but then itll drop again to zero slight change in engine note again..

whilst reving the car the rev counter stays at zero however when it decides to go to normal idle position and then rev the car it revs fine but some times flickers and jumps at higher revs around 2500rpm .

things that might effect revs to go back to normal or could be just a coincidence that is, when i opened the driver door while car was running, rev counter needled dropped to zero, and when i turn the steering wheel needle fluctuates..again could be just a coincidence just at that moment..

ive had a think it could be the g28 but cant find its location looked high and low, obviously in the wrong place.

anyone had a similar problem any ideas etc are most welcome..

thanks in advance

What oil symbol, and how have you checked the oil pressure?

Sounds like it could be a wiring fault of some kind? bad earth perhaps?

hi,

the flash oil can symbol is what comes up when the rev counter drops to zero, then when rev counter decides to come back to 800 rpm or so light goes off..

checked oil pressure using multi meter..

thanks again

just an update just ruled out the g28 impulse sendor fitted a new one and no joy. anyone? thanks

ps Aragorn i used a multi meter to check the reading on the oil pressure switch making sure that was reading right.. once again vagcom is showing nothing is wrong..
