New bits arrived,

Gloss black rear end Audi decal
Gloss black front end Audi decal
Gloss black number plate surrounds (with ingolstadt.de spelt correctly.....!)

Had a Plasti-Dip master class from ScottB5 and in a couple of weeks the famous RS3 rear end badge gets the Darth Vader treatment

Thanks for pointing the error out...... I am grateful, actually prefer these new surrounds as the old ones had
a flash of red in the Audi decal which I didn't really like.

Now to get the rear decal off, tried tooth floss....! No joy, if I can't get it off easy then maybe I'll revert to ScottB5 tip of masking of general area and peeling away Gloss Black Plasti-Dip.

If this works to a good standard then I'm almost certainly going to spray the chrome wing mirrors and the wheels and the bonnet and the roof and the doors......... And myself......

To get the rear badge off boiling water does the job then just polish the glue off

With respect Dan930, I've seen lacquer/paint blisters from the inappropriate use of a hair dryer... Now I don't know how good robbimac is with a hair dryer (LOL) but his is how I'd be doing it.

On my cars (TT, A2, S3) when renewing the badges I used a pair of (electrical type) pincers to bite into the 'badge', then carefully pull the 'badge away from the body, and then used a sharp hardback razor blade to cut lightly into the exposed adhesive foam strip. Once you cut into one side of the foam strip then the foam stripwill split easily (leaving adhesive and split foam strip on both the badge and the body).

Once the badge is free from the body panel then the remaining adhesive and split foam strip can easily be removed from the body using Methylated spirit.

OK, so you damage the badge, but that's better than damaging the panel.

When I had my m3 vinyl wrapped they used a hair dryer to take off the badges..

Agree with 45bvtc, meths all day long. I have used it so many times, even to take off the foam behind the rear number plate. Dont forget to Clay the paint, wax it then put new badges on.

I have just sorted out a set of piano black mirror covers for mine. Was thinking about doing a few other bits, on Suzuka it wil look spot on.

If anyone is interested I'm thinking of having some carbon fibre parts fabricated by a company local to me that did bits for my RS4, Argon Creative. They have a great rep. and are suppliers of cf parts to three F1 teams and to several car manufacturers of prototype cf parts on concept cars.

To minimise the R&D production costs if there are enough people interested these are the bits I was looking at long term;

wing mirror casings
B-Pillar
rear diffusor
seat backs
door inlays
gear surround
engine covers

These would be genuine parts rather than overlays. They could also overlay parts for the wing mirror bracket / A-Pillar.

Any takers? Check them out on FB if you want to see the work they are doing and also what they are doing to a friend's Atom.

Here's a pair of Audi rings I removed earlier (S3 and TT): note the two 'pinch' marks 'arrowed' - and that's all the damage there was.

Pinch at one end, pull, slice, and pull again (slice if/where necessary) and then stick the rings on to the toolbox.





Here's another I tried back in the late 70's, but I just pulled too (careful) hard and the bl##dy body came off...

Hairdryer should work just find,previously took all the boot badges off the RS4 with one so can't see the glue they use on the 3 being more adhesive.

Front and rear Licence plate surround on......

Don't ask about the badges and decals as I've looked at it and caution prevails....... It will be done however don't want to rush it and now I've clocked Kowalski detailing in Salford....... Will be paying them a visit.

Could get the rear portion of the comfort seat coated in piano black high gloss to match the door inlays, however don't want the back of the chair to look like a canoe.......!
Almost certainly going to get the Alloys painted High Gloss Black

Go See N8 mate. Top bloke, he'll help you out.

Since you got some PD on its way, use that on your badges to save you from removing them.

But, if you really want to remove them and go for the ones, I would just pull the old ones off with your fingers and get a caramel wheel to remove the glue.

Like me, he decided to move away from the warm embrace of out home city to.............well, I went somewhere warmer, less built up and closer to the sea, he just went to Manchester. lol


I love Air Fix models, I think I still got my WWII air crafts somewhere.

Don't scrimp on the PD testing though.
