Hello everyone!

I put down a deposit on my first audi yesterday, a 2010 silver S3 sport back black edition, 33000 miles.
I did quite well keeping calm considering it is my dream car until I put my foot down in sport mode and pretty much shouted 'holy ****' in the sellers face, ha.

Couple of things though...

There was margarine type goo on the inside of the oil filler cap. The chap said it had been sitting around for a while and that was normal. Really?? There wasn't anything I could see in the engine.

The air con fan didn't work at all but its still under audi warranty until apr... Anyone had that problem?

So all being well (the fan is fixed...) and once its had two new tyres on the front and some tax I pick it up next week.

Anything I need to know about this car? I think I saw that the stronic and turbo oil needs a change at 40000...

Correct me if I'm wrong but those wheels arnt black edition wheels. They are either those in titanium or rotors in titanium. But as I said I could be wrong. I'm sure someone will come along and confirm.

Thats the one (weird:ermm:) and Jambo you're correct they're not black ed wheels. Apparently the previous owner didn't like the black eds so specced the car with these. I kinda like that in a way. Its definately a black ed as it has all the bits and says so on the paperwork and checks.

I see. Just thought I'd mention it coz I've see a few A/S3's saying there black eds but arnt. Well a least you know the crack about the car lol.

It was the fan motor, now replaced. Pick it up tomorrow. So excited. won't be sleeping much tonight...

i can imagine you will not get much sleep, but time will pass quickly. We all look forward to some pics. Enjoy your new car.:) x

the margarine inside the oil cap look like this stuff by any chance, but maybe not as extreme?

This is generally associated with 'Emulsification/mayonnaise under the oil filler cap' issue - it's common to jump to the conclusion that it's a blown head gasket but is rarely the case especially the solid 2.0TFSi.... Basically water has/is entering and causing the emulsification. I would recommend:
- Oil swap and filter (I do this on any car I buy straight away)
- Check for weeping gaskets (rocker cover is a key one)
- Take it off the longlife service plan, search around it's not rated at all (I took my 1.8T golf, TT 225bhp and now 2.7 V6 TDi off the longlife plan IMMEDIATELY and change the oil every 10,000)
- After oil change, check the cap see if the issue has come back.

if you're worried about a leak/cracked head gasket get a compression test done

hope some of that helps

Cheers Sandra and thanks very much for that Golfedd. It was a small amount similar to the picture. Sounds like a good idea getting the oil and filter changed. Do you think it'll be ok to do that in a week as I'm working until then. Audi gave it a once over today and replaced a seized prop bearing too.

What do you mean by taking it off the long life service plan? I'm planning to take it to my local garage not audi. Stealers haven't been the best to me in the past (vw) so I only take my cars to this one garage who I trust completely. They have sorted every issue in the past and my family take all our cars there. Also what oil should I put in it? Thanks again :)

Well - there's two sides to everything, however the general feel and consensus (those one here, feel free to correct me or highlight where I'm wrong) is that the 'longlife' plan is too long between oil changes etc and is bad over the lifetime of the car. decent regular oil changes (especially in the 2.0T which can get a 'hard' life LOL) would be nothing but GOOD news... the oil pick up pipe in these and the old 1.8T can get a bit clogged if not, due to long oil duration and rubbish passing through. BUT I wouldn't worry about that on your soon to be S3 as it's only done a few miles.

Longlife vs normal

Another longlife vs Normal

I would not be too alarmed at the sludge on the cap as it could easily be this

Yup x2 on this... I knew i'd read that somewhere couldn't find the link!

You picked up the car yet? Pics? :) x

Yeah got the car. Very pleased. When it went to audi for the fan they ended up replacing the whole prop shaft! 2.5k spent on the car before I picked it up (not by me) only niggle is that the seller must have forgotten to give me the logbook and manual so I need to sort that. I'll sort some pictures when its dryer out... Raining at the mo

Hey, just glad you got it. Good that work was carried out for you. Will wait for the pics. Enjoy driving your new car. :) x

Glad you're happy with it! and nice to hear they replaced it properly and you know it'll be sorted!

Enjoy your new car man

Thank you. Its a tidy car. The pic was worth waiting for, lol. :) x
