Hi, im looking at changing the 17's on my S-Line for 18's

Im thinking possibly RS4's in gunmetal or Rs6's just in silver

What are your opinions on wheels, my A4 is Red btw

Cheers

I always liked the RS6's tbh if we're talking the chunky 5 spokes, they just suited the B6/7 & 8P chassis's very well, although the right RS4's would also look nice, car colour will play a role in gunmetal ones, may look ok on red, check in the pics thread in 8P for any red cars with those wheels/colour.

8P?

A3 8P they had the same style wheels fitted.

Rs6 good looking and easy to clean i have them on my a3 s line

RS6s are a bit common, I have them and they look good, but i'm thinking of changing to RS4s in gunmetal, black on red could be an option, black out the chrome on your car to match the wheels.

Yea i think the gunmetal or black would look good, is all the chrome removable? Anyone on here got it done?

Yeah i agree with ben, black looks sweet on red cars but also agree with nhn that the rs6 wheels look good on the b7's

If i went with RS6's they would stay silver, RS4's gunmetal or black

Which RS6's?

Or the new style:

Personally I like both of the RS6 styles, plus the RS4 style wheels have been done to death! But if you're going to upgrade I wouldn't go for 18"s, 19" suit the B7 infinitely more!

Having said that, my opinion is just that, MY opinion. You may well think otherwise...

How's the ride and handling on 19's compared to 18's on standard shocks?

After months of mind changing RS4/RS6/Rotors and more lol, I went with these.....

Having gone from 18" on standard springs/shocks, then to 19" on H&R 30mm springs (standard shocks) I think the ride is slightly improved. The OEM s-line springs are pretty bad to be honest. If you put 19"s on the standard suspension I think you'd be dissapointed, but if you're spending £500 on rims & £500 on tyres, what's another £200 for some new springs!?

I would described my ride as "Firm but comfortable". Occasionally you get a rough surface and you know you're on 35 profile tyres but it's not too bad. Don't think I could ever 'recommend' anyone get 19"s without changing the springs though...

What set up have you got Macdoon?

235/40 on 18x8, OEM s-line suspension (about to put H&R 35mm springs on tho'), would have gone for 19's but the roads are ****e around here

Changing topic a little, but if i had H&R springs fitted are they literally just a straight swap onto the OEM shocks? Nothing else needs adjusting on the car, ie camber, tracking? 30 or 35mm better, still might stick with 18's idea though

Just a straight swap. They will take a week or 2 to settle in and give you ride height advertised (depending on milage).

Personally I'd always go for 45mm, sits just right. The only reason I went for 30mm is because you can't get any lower for the cab 3.0tdi... (unless you fit coilovers)

Like Mac's I think.... correct me if you've changed your suspension Mac. Standard s-line setup is with 18" rims, and the ride height is 20mm lower than SE, you'd sit like every other standard s-line B7 if you used stock springs/shocks with 18s

Those look like the right sort of springs, but this seller is usually the cheapest even with shipping to the UK: Sonstiges, Pflege Wartung items in autoteilemann store on eBay!

Anyone else vouch for them springs? Also its plus postage so across europe wont be cheap

My s line has 17's on guessing as standard

Aye, mine is standard S-line on 18's, so yea 20mil lower than SE

Stock S-Line suspension on 19" A6 Le Mans Edition wheels 8.5j 255/35/19 (replacing with 235/35/19 soon) all round with 15mm spacers on rear and 10mm spacers on front (taking out spacers from up front as they're only in temporarily to stop tyres from rubbing).

Ride is pretty awful to be honest but not alot worse than when I had the 18s on. Looking at changing springs later this year, most probably 30mm as I don't want a crashy ride.

Nice glossy black those Daz, not sure on the inner contrast tho, that said they are very cool wheels

Macdoon, I agree. Im trying to source black ones which i have seen on copy alloys advertised on ebay. They dont look too bad on the car tho when you see them next to the aluminium roofbars and aluminium wing mirrors.

Thinking one of these,Definitely want dark though...

As long as they're 19's...

If you're set on getting 18's I think the RS4 style would look better, something about the rotor style makes them look small in 18' imo, but if you were going for 19' :o.k: I'd say get the rotor style (the first one you posted as I can't remember the name of it)...

Think i want to stick to 18's really, not only due to expense but im told the ride on 19's is bad! And the roads round here are awful :(

Any other suggestions apart from them 2 sets?

I went up from 18's to 19's on stock S-Line suspension and if I was to rate the rides out of 10:

18s = 8/10

19s = 7/10

Really not much difference if I'm honest. But replacing all the tyres next is sure gonna cost me a fair bit LOL
