ok never ceen one to drive a standard motor for more than 5 minutes, whats the next level for my b5 s4? remap? injectors and turbos changed? what other turbos bolt directly on and what power would they give me, i still want a reliable car though

I would recommend reprogramming and turbos K04and also change injectors

a friend has a 2000 S4 and made those changes and it is a beast

You need to set yourself a goal and work towards it, rather than just blundering around changing things at random.

The standard turbos max out around 340-350hp. They'll only get there with a raft of additional modifications though, such as a full exhaust, bigger downpipes (either RS4 with gutted precats or aftermarket), intercooler and a good customised remap.

A stock car with a generic remap will see you to around 300hp. Exhaust and downpipes might see 320-330 but heat starts to become an issue with the stock coolers.

If you want to go further the next step would be to install the K04 turbos from an RS4. This is a big expense though, the turbos are about 2k new, or you can collect used sets for around 600-700. The engine needs to come out to fit them, so your talking best part of a grand in labour, and given that, its almost always advised to have and used turbo refurbished before fitting. you'll also need some additional pipework to fit them which will run you a few hundred quid.

With those fitted, you have scope for upto about 500hp with the right bolt ons. The exhaust, downpipes and intercooler mentioned above will all fit the K04 turbos just fine. The stock injectors wont do much more than about 350hp safely, so you'll need to upgrade those. People suggest doing the fuel pump as well if going past 400hp. You can use RS4 parts for both the injectors and pump, or go for aftermarket parts (my preferred option)

I have just bought an S4 with K04 Turbos on. Is there an easy way to check if injectors have been changed? Anyone have part numbers for RS4 ones to hand if I need to order them?
Thanks

If you are running much more than 350-380 then you wont be running stock s4 injectors. RS4 injectors are short (48MM), S4 injectors are long (60mm) so it will be obvious to see which you are running. If you are pushing past 450bhp then i would recommend upgrading to deka 630cc injectors which will support 650bhp+ If you are running a standard s/rs4 fuel pump then i would be upgrading to a bosch 044 pump.

If looking to go bigger turnos then K04 (RS4 turbos) is the most common upgrade. This will see you into the mid 400's easily depending on the supporting mods.

Things to change would be -

Injectors
fuel pump
manifolds (if using pre facelift)
downpipes & exhaust
Intercoolers
Intake pipes

Thanks for info and sorry to hijack thread a bit..

Any more info on these as mine is PreFace lift

manifolds (if using pre facelift)
Intake pipes

pre facelift manifolds are prone to the inner skin breaking up (they rattle) You can source facelift/rs4 manifolds for around £100.

The intake pipes on the s4 are not the correct size if going to k04 turbos. You can source rs4 intake pipes for around £200. These are a direct fit to the car and turbo.

Thanks, I'll have a proper look. I have seen It has samco style hose bits where the recirc valves are connected. I've looked at some pictures and the 'y' pipe across the top of engine looks different on RS4 to S4, that right? Do they run the same size MAF too?
Thanks

Any questions just drop me a pm.

Yeah the rs4 runs a different maf & diameter maf housing.

Thanks, it that worth a change?

PS - your inbox is full :p

TBH most PFL manifolds were changed under warranty years ago, i very much doubt you'll find many cars running around today with the faulty PFL manifolds.
