......Right, info needed please,

Cambelt change is defo on the cards for me and 2013 so I wanted to try and work out what its gonna cost me.

So has anyone had this done at a garage recently and is happy to post up what it cost that would be v useful. Not form the stealers though as defo cant afford their labour rates!

I am also happy to buy the bits myself (timing kit, waterpump, tensioner) and then just get them fitted locally (not keen on doing this myself and would also like the receipt for my history and also a warranty on the work done). So can I just get the bits off ECP and is there any recommended brands and are the bits I listed and all that I need?

If I do buy the bits how many hours should I budget for the labour charges?

cheers

P.s I did do a quick search but a lot of what I found was posted years ago so not sure If the prices were still current

That's a lot cheaper than I thought it would be at the dealers - I was more expecting £500+

thanks for the info

No problem, prices were, coolant £15, water pump £55 Does not say price of the belt, just £180 for belt and labour. All plus VAT of course at the end.

Ah so it was £330 without VAT that seems more like it so it was closer to £500 inc VAT.

I think I may go the route of getting the bits myself and then just paying for labour.

I went to a specialist and paid £280 a couple of years ago, you can get the full contitech kit from ECP for a decent price and if you know someone local and good they should be able to get it all done for less than £300 for the lot.

Make sure you do the waterpump at the same time.

Yup the link I posted above is the contitech kit form ECP but it does not include the waterpump this is sold seperatly which I also linked to. Belt kit is £148 and the pump is either £30 or £50 (they have 2 listed)

So the second link I found on the PSI website for the ECS tuning kit sounds quite good as it includes all bits needed for £180 or a racing version for £220

First quote back form JKM in Portsmouth :

£349inc VAT for complete job using genuine VW bits

£198inc VAT for just the labour

So not too bad really will see if I get any other quotes from some of the local places I have emailed

I will tell you the tomorrow, mine in getting MOT and the belt changed won't get it back till tomorrow so will post up the costs.

Sounds good the more info the better

I've got a belt kit and water pump ready to be fitted Wednesday, £111 from GSF with discount of around 15% so not a bad price as it's the full contitech kit and the better quality pump. Also add £10 for G12++

Fitting is £140 so a pretty good price.

It works out to £330 with vat. The other prices I listed were without vat.

Cheers all for the pricing info,

Does anyone have any direct experience of the ECS stuff I linked to earlier in the thread or should I stick with contitech etc?

I think i paid £330 or £350 @ Jabbasport which included a metal impellered water pump, this was a few years back but it did include VAT.

Found this standard belt kit by ECS (belt is a contitech) Audi TT MKI Quattro 225HP > Search > Timing Belt Kit > ES#1052 ECS Tuning Timing Belt Kit - Standard - 06B198479 which awesome GTI will sell for £98.50 and they also sell a waterpump for £25 so that's a pretty good price for all the kit needed including delivery.

The only cheaper place I can find similar bits is on Ebay as a contitech belt and INA tensioner can be had for £50.36 and a waterpump can be had for £22.25 (there are a few waterpumps available on ebay) here are the links :
Z737 Cambelt Kit AUDI S3 Timing belt kit 1.8 10/2001 05/2003 | eBay
AUDI A3 A4 S3 TT 1.8 20 V 1.8 T WATER PUMP 96-08 ***FAST DELIVERY*** | eBay

i would have thought this would another of your wild diy jobs rob! hahaha I would have come along if only for ur um's tea and biscuits!!

Lol I was tempted to give it a whirl myself but timing scares me a little, Plus I kinda want a proper receipt for this for my service history. Am sure we will find some other jobs we can tackle and then your more than welcome to come and tinker whilst getting fed with tea n biccies :)

sounds good mate ! working on aircraft is proving fun too.. well. and frustrating! anyway decided to keep my car now at least for the foreseeable future...!

Good to hear your expanding your mechanical knowledge and that the car is staying for a bit longer too :)

My cam seals have recently gone (thanks to Ben for identifying!) so it might be worth getting that done at the same time

INA have a pretty good reputation as far as I'm aware and have used bits from them before and the parts have aways been of a really good quality. Although I'd be weary of buying from Ebay as you can't judge the quality and whether there genuine not fakes.

Gfs sell INA belt kits I'm pretty sure there the 'premium' kits.

Hmmm Interesting,

So is this readily accessible when doing the cambelt then? Also whats needed for the change is just some new seals and if so what seals and how much please?
