Anyone know about music formats for the MMI?

Can anyone tell me why a song isn't being recognised on my SD card? step by step :
i've been running my albums off onto the card, WMA format ripped from Windows Player. one of the last tracks on one album is one of those annoying tw@s that has 10 mins of silence then a "hidden" bit that i don't care for, so i decided to chop it out.
i downloaded Audacity, ripped the song as a WAv (Audacity doesn't use WMA), chopped it about, then down loaded a codec wotsit to allow me to save it was WMA.
it plays fine on the file on the puter, it plays fine on the file onthe card when i play that through the puter, but when i load up the MMI the track is listed okay but when i reach it, it just skips over to the next song and the track title turns grey. anyone know why? and how to fix it?

may be give it a proper ID3 tag (remove any strange characters in any of the fields if there are any) and see if that helps? may be something like this:

ID3 renamer - Free, intuitive program for easily renaming unlimited numbers of files and ID3 tags.

if you already have the tags sorted... then I would try and put it onto CD and then rip it as an MP3 off the CD again. It may be that coding became corrupt amongst all the conversions - has been known to happen. Sometimes SD cards themselves need reformatting. So that is another thing you could try... reformat the SD and put all the music back onto it.

Three options there... let us know how you get on.

can't get that prog to work sensibly at all. tried another, it gave a few tags, but not the "Duration" one, which i think is the culprit - it sayd 6:49 and the player etc shows the track as 5:05, which is correct.
going to fiddle a bit more

run that track through foobar.Add the track to the main window, right click on it choose utilities>rebuild mp3 stream.Then right click the track,.utilities>fix mbr header.Foobar does a lot of other stuff too ie:tagging converting etc and its free.
