Right, lost my car key in the snow somewhere. Went out with the dog to play in the snow, half way through the walk I checked to see if my car key was still there but it wasn't. Retraced my footsteps in the snow but still couldn't find them!

I've got a spare key that works fine, but now I only have one... How much does a spare key cost? And where to get one from?

I feel like kicking my self. Can't believe I've lost it! Going to have to go back when the snow has melted but its a pretty big field so I doubt I'll find it or even be able to retrace my footsteps by then!

I think I new key is around £150 plus programming, but i very much doubt if someone does find it, they will know what car it belongs too!

It was close to where I live. That's why at the moment I've got a big people carrier and a mini blocking it in up the long single drive way. Ha.

From reading that other thread it suggests I could drive to Audi and get them to take the other key off the ecu so it can't be started by that one anymore? That might be worth doing. Might see if they'll do that for free of I buy another key ;) at their silly prices!

I don't think anyone will know its mine, as its not as if I'm walking around publicising it. Some close friends know. I definitely am not putting it on Facebook lets put it that way. Ha. But knowing my luck right now, someone will stumble across it and then stumble across my car.

Can the key be taken off by a friendly person who would like beer tokens via VCDS?

Worth keeping in mind the insurance implications if its nicked using the lost key as you have not kept it secure. Id get it reprogrammed or whatever they do at Audi.
Also id would report it lost to the police in case a good samaritan turns it in.

I have my mobile number on the fob with 'reward' on it in case of losing it.
Hope you find yours

Audi dont actually remove a specific key, they reprogram the whole system, so wipes everything & reprograms the single or single + new key & if you buy a new, the existing is done at same time anyway or it wont work.

You will need all docs & proof of address, get it sorted asap if I was you & it takes 4-5 days for new key to arrive from germany to dealer & rest has to be done at dealer, imho dont use anyone else.

Nige, it's all ok with my guy ! I agree with your sentiments but I've been with him when he did my key/s and the proper procedures were observed.

Each to there own Mike, if you're happy then good, but I will not risk my keys being copied for the sake of the cost difference & I dont advise my clients either, no offense to you or your key person, but I know of the kit out there & keys can be copied within seconds these days for allot of cars.

I can't believe my luck! Found my car keys!! Since I lost them and the snow has melted I've been walking down the same bit retracing my steps for the last 2 days! Well today I found them. Get in there! Well chuffed with myself! Plus they still work even though they've been in the melting snow and outside in the rain for over 48hours!
