Only key fob needs recoding; car locked, alarm armed

Been meaning to fix my only key fob for ages as the blade holder broke. So I got a replacement case and straight after work tonight decided to make the blade fit in the very tight new holder. Pulled both cases apart to see if layout the same (they weren't), not thinking that the fob would lose its code straight away. Stupid me not realising locked the car on the fob, so I have the car alarm armed and the assembled fob now won't disarm it...

I have the valet key and the plastic key, so my question is, can I get into the car and re-code the existing fob without setting off the alarm? And if I do set of the alarm, will I be able to re-code the key whilst the alarm is going off?

I saw this posted on the Zine, but it looks like the car would have to be unlocked to do this:

Procedure for re-coding an existing transmitter - press "lock" or "unlock" button of the remote transmitter - within 30 seconds, lock and unlock the vehicle using the driver side lock. (this means with the key in the lock) - now check function of the re-coded remote transmission.

Any ideas?

use any available key that has an immo chip, unlock the door, the alarm may sound but turning on the ignition will cancel the alarm if the key's immo chip is still coded.

yeh as above, if its a prefacelift just open the door with the key and it'll be fine.

If its a facelift the alarm might go off, but will cancel when you insert a valid key into the ignition and switch on.

Have you transferred the immo transponder to the new key housing? as if you havent you wont be able to start the car (nor disarm the alarm!)

I was going to but the battery door on the new housing was a different layout to the old one. Had I known I wouldn't have needed to open the working fob, but the old fob was/is a bit shiny so would have preferred a complete new housing. As it is at the moment the key blade part is the new housing, the button part is the old.

the immo transponder is part of the "key blade" section. you will need to remove the transponder form the old key and transfer it into the new one.

Be very careful, they're fragile.

Oops didn't realise that the immobiliser transponder was in the blade section. I managed to unlock the car on the key, and went to start the car...

...it started and then died! There was a yellow warning lamp in the rev counter (car with a key for floor pan and rear wheel). Presumably the car was laughing hard at me

I just checked out a youtube video on disassembly of the fob. I think i'll just swap the new blade holder over to the old fob case to avoid the frankenstein fob i'm rocking at the moment.
