Went to John Lewis Home this afternoon in High Wycombe to look for some furniture for the boys. Just as I was about to pull away from the lights on the M40/A404 junction, the car threw a wobbly by stalling, indicating that there was a malfunction and I should take it straight to the garage.:sadlike: I thought it say ASR/ESP fault, but after a bit of time, I eventually managed to start the car and the computer then indicated there was a start/stop malfunction.

We stopped in Marlow because I was hoping I could leave the car for a bit and it would reset itself, but to no avail. Now I have to press and hold the key until the car eventually starts, the engine management light remains on and the start/stop message reappears until I turn it off. The car seems to have gone into some sort of safe mode because it feels as if the turbo charger has been disengaged. Theres hardly any accelleration.

Luckily I managed to aviod the M4 on the way home and kept the revs below 2000rpm and the speed below 40mph.

Any ideas what it could be? I'll have to phone the stealership tomorrow.

Yeah its purely gone into a safety mode probably due to the system malfunction, need to scan with vcds to ascertain what the fault was for tbh, if under warranty leave with audi mate, given the nature of the fault, they would probably scan it if you took it in tomorrow morning, dealer dependent, but mine would, just from a safety factor.

forget the dealers then
get it scanned for codes as NHN said above

You not considered buying vcds yourself, at least diagnostics would be free this & future times :)

How much is a VCDS?

Update on the car: I hadn't realised that Audi had replaced the timing belt with a chain. 'Maintenance free...happy days!!' I hear you say. Not when the problem has now been transferred to the timing belt wheel bearings!

I've had the wheel, bearings, belt and some other part replaced and the engine had to be re-timed. Not happy considering the car only has 48k on the clock and I'm curently using the convertible in the snow, when I wanted it covered

:wtf:

Your profile says South East. I'm in Harlow with VCDS if it helps?

Thanks for the offer scoTTy, but I'm hoping the car is sorted now. The garage said they need to take it for a test drive to ensure it is ok. I'm away until Wednesday so will hopefully pick it up then.

I live in Berkshire.

Good to hear.

Berkshire is pushing the South EAST bit to the limit ;)

Really, where from? I thought they were about a grand. Can you play around with things or is it just for diagnosing problems? I've always wanted the mirror dip when reversing and needle sweep on start up.

From me :)

Yes you can diagnose, recode, fit new modules, adjust existing, log measuring blocks, numerous things on all vag brands.

Oh boy, where can I get my hands on one. It would be really useful because my father also drives an Audi.

Apologies I'm posting from my phone and somehow managed to miss that bit. Once I've got over the shock of paying for my repair bill, I may be in touch later! When I told the wife how much it was going to cost, she told me to sell it for a Mondeo!
