MPG after remap 2.0 TFSI dsg

Hi all,

I'm wondering whether to go for a remap. Either bluefin or shark, anyway, I'm only going to bother if my MPG improves.

Does it? I never drive fast, always try to drive efficiently etc.

Anyone got the same engine and had a remap and seen an improvement? If so what's the figures?

Just a little joke as most just go for power haha.

From what people have said on here, when remapped the mpg does improve slightly, not by much though, only a few more mpg. TDI's are the way to go for fuel economy and decent performance.
 
What you would spend on a remap would be too expensive compared to what you will save in any extra mpg?!?!?!
I dont understand you own a 2 litre petrol and then go on about mpg. Buy a small engine petrol or diesel if you want mpg.
I only had a remap for more power and the delivery of that power along with a DSG map for my own personal 'reasons'.
mpg does not even come into it.

Yeah I know had a golf gt 170 and was rapid and economical. Couldn't map out though as had dpf and other issues.....

i agree with you RPB remaps are for go not saving dough!!

on a separate note are you still enjoying the shark map RPB ?

I've got a Big Fish Tuning remap on my 2.0TFSI DSG and it's great, putting out around 255bhp and I've noticed no difference at all in economy.

How on earth do you manage to get 35mpg? My computer 2 over 5k miles is on 28.5mpg... I don't really hang around but I certainly don't thrash her everywhere. I always put this down to the DSG box...

Just drive steady and use a lot of cruise, anticipate when you're going to have to slow down/stop and coast letting the dsg slow you not the brakes.

All depends what speed roads too, town driving kills mpg, so does motorway, clear A roads are best. :D
 
Yup, I'm pretty much always in town apart from 4 miles on an A road which explains a lot.

I also like the launch control feature of the DSG box.. 0-69 in 5.9s, I guess that could explain the deterioration of my MPG, haha.

Seriously though, I sometimes travel to London and even motorway driving I only manage 33mpg.. and thats steady 70-80mph with cruise..

Yeah sticking to 50/60 is best for mpg, sounds like your drive is the worst for mpg.....
 
Had 3 different remapped 20Ts, REVOd 20T Golf Gti (K03), REVOd S3 (KO4), SHARK S3 (KO4).

All much faster but no mpg improvement.

In theory, you would rev a mapped car less and make use of the additional mid range torque to access the power, so in theory get better mpg.

I found I just wanted to dip into the reserves of grunt more:sly:
Used to see 24mpg from the Golf and 22mpg from the S3`s but thats mainly town driving.

Dont let that put you off, the 20T responds amazingly well to a Stage 1 map so go and make it more fun!
 
thats rubbish.
you dont get any improvement in MPG.
Ive had two petrol cars remapped and
on both occassions they drink more petrol.
you can only see gains with a diesel engine.

ive been looking at getting my car mapped and was gonna go with a cusom map. r tech in leciester are rated on the mk5golfgti forums .might be worth speaking to them as they charge £290 for the remap and can map it the way that you want so should be able to create a map thats economical
 
I've got mine custom mapped and I get slightly better mpg but I don't because I drive it harder if that makes sense as its fun having more power. If its mpg you are after dont bother with the map. If you want a car that feels and pushes harder more like it should then do it..
 
I want both of possible to be honest.

Would welcome some figures though folks please.

Hi Daz,

Any gains in mpg are very marginal on a petrol engine. They also require the use of high octane fuel in order to get the most efficient burn. It's not something I would recommend you do if you want more economy. The difference in power though is substantial.

Have a look at Motech remaps, they do a specific remap for better fuel economy:

Motech EcoMap

However, at £249, you would have to do alot of driving for the savings in fuel you would make to overtake the price of the remap.

I would reccomend a 2.0 TDI. I dont remember the last time I did a journey and got below 50mpg.

I had one mate, was a good car but didn't like the lack of refinement and the rough diesel engine. Felt like a transit van compared to a Honda derv..... Amazing for economy though, I'm missing that hence the post.....

Fair enough mate. I do miss the smoothness of a petrol sometimes, but cant have it all ha!

Motech are based in Northampton, but they may be able to come to you. My friend has had an A4 DTM remapped by them and rates them highly.

To be fair mate I think I had a bad one, Friday afternoon car, kept going wrong on me. All sorts, mechanical, body work, even had a vicar drive into it so got rid.

Had a couple of dervs so fancied a change.
 
I never really noticed any increase in mpg with my shark remap, a lot more power but economy seems the same, i can get around 38mpg on motorway cruise, the thing that did make a difference was going from 17 to 18 inch wheels, but the remap didnt seem to do much for economy
