Hi All,

Current Steering Wheel is a bog standard Audi S3 "Round Wheel" with an airbag but no controls.

I'm looking at getting this:

OEM AUDI S3 8P Sport Steering wheel - BKS-Tuning

Which doesn't have an airbag so is it possible to switch my current airbag into this?

If so is it relatively easy?

If not where would i get an airbag from (Audi Dealership) & how much roughly are they?

Thanks for you help in advance people! :icon_thumright:

it wont fit
ebay or dealers for the round bag
they go for around £200/250 on the bay
a lot more at dealers you will also need the airbag loom and maybe swcm for the multifunction.

Cheers for the reply mate. Is the best bet trying to find one with a bag then?

£200/250 for the bag on it's own is that?!

No mfsw will work unless you have the correct steering module - 8P0 953 549 F

No other will do and neither will the 1K0 version F

How late are we talking? Like MY10/11+? Also are the K modules backwards compatible with older 8Ps?

They seem to be a bit cheaper than the F modules so I was wondering if I could fit one to my MY09 8P3. :uhm:

Ok cheers for that mate.

So what do i need for the swap?

The MFSW, AirBag & Steering Module - 8P0 953 549 F?

Thanks Again!

As far as I can ascertain you can use version 'K' ok in your car. Bear in mind it must be 8P0 NOT 1K0 module

Cheers for the replies mate.

So to clarify:

1. Audi S3 MFSW - Audi TT TTS TTRS R8 A3 S3 RS3 A4 S4 RS4 A5 S5 A6 RS6 Q7 STEERING WHEEL Sline | eBay
2. Air Bag that fits with the SW - AUDI A3 S3 RS3 A4 S4 RS4 A6 RS6 TT TTS TTRS R8 Flat Bottom Steering Wheel Airbag | eBay
3. 8P0 971 589 AC
4.
8P0 953 549

This is all i need to make the switch?

Did you read my post - I said not for fbmfsw which is what that is !! However, if you buy that airbag the wiring loom is with it.

It's the bit with the yellow multi-pin plug on it.

Sorry, i don't know what you mean by "fb" mfsw (sorry for my lack of knowledge on the subject ha)

Ok so I'm guessing the wiring loom is the "harness" you said it may require?

If i buy the MFSW & That Bag - All i would require would be the 8P0 953 549 F Steering Module? Is that right?

That wheel is 'Flat-Bottom' which is the FB in FBmfsw !

Yes, if you buy those three items that is all you need but you are looking at £600 +

Then you need coding with VCDS.

EDIT: just checked the part number for the airbag in that ebay ad - it does not exist !! That is the part number for the wiring harness but will have suffix letter/s as well.

Ask seller for the airbag part number and I will check it. Also ask for the wheel part number.

Haha! My bad! It's obvious after hearing what it means!

I'm guessing the steering module is fairly pricey then?

Hi mate,

Wheel Part No: 8P0 419 091 CR
Airbag: No sticker.

Look forward to hearing from you,

Cheers!

Ok mate!

Seller also advised airbag fits wheel, wouldn't surprise me if it is from the wheel & he is just splitting the sell as you said before!

That wheel /airbag is ok so all you need now is the control module and coding !!

New, the wheel is £550 and the airbag is £760 !

Try these for modules :- 8P0953549F | eBay

Thanks for your input mate.

I've bought all 3 products, so all i need to do now is get it coded, just to double check it doesn't have to be an Audi dealership that does this does it?

No - check VCDS User map for owners in your area who will be pleased to help you.

Just to double check i don't need a new "Slip Ring" aswell do i? (I don't have cruise control, i dont know if this has any bearing on fitting the FBMFSW or the Module i have to buy?

Look forward to your reply mate!

yes those are all the parts you need, now just need to fit it and code it to your car.
after coding you will need to do a 'steering angle reset' so make sure who ever is doing that for you knows what that is.

also since you are changing over the steering module you may as well just get cruise installed as your taking off most of the bits that need to be taken off when doing a cruise install.

I can do these coding/installs for you if you need? i am only by bluewater so not too far.

also i know this is a little late to ask but have you got a manual or auto?

Alright mate, its a manual, what parts would i need for cruise control?

Thanks.

just the cruise control stalk which replaces the indicator stalk and the lower cowling that has the cut out for the new stalk.

if your interested pm me and i can sort out a complete price for you for the parts and fitting inc coding for the lot.

No - your existing slip ring is the correct one !

For anybody reading this thread the part number I quoted in post #12 for the airbag wiring harness is incorrect!!!

It should read 8P0 971 589 AD. This number superseded suffix AB which in turn superseded Q !!

Whether AD has now been replaced I don't know. !

"AD" is still the correct suffix, I ordered one last week when fitting a MFSW :)
