Hi Guys

My left wing mirror hits the wall in a dark evening...

Although the mirror and its remote electronic adjustment works fine, there are cracks on the casing and looks pretty ugly. I am wondering if you could recommend any good Audi specialist in Bristol that can replace the cracked casing. Audi is trying to charge me at 200 pounds....

BTW, do you have any idea how much it will cost at an Audi independent specialist? Labor plus the parts.

I can find some cheaper parts on the europarts website but they do not provide any information about the color of the casing.

Not sure an independent would do it? Sure it's not a coachworks job? You had a look on eBay to see if there any cases on there?

Well need to know year of car & 3 or 5dr as if its a base issue they're different, I could probably get a cover, painted & fitted for less than £200

thank you for your reply. I tried ebay but can't find the identical one.

Year of car and amount of doors?

My car is 58 Reg Audi A3 5 door facelift model (color black). The turning indicator is also built in within the wing mirror. Can you please pm me the possible quote?

58 Reg facelift model 5 door black A3 sportback. Cheers

Is the base OK? (the part that is actually attached to your car)

You can remove the indicator strip from your existing damaged case providing it's ok? Otherwise it's another £25/£30 for this bit alone.

Many thanks for your input. The base is ok and the indicator strip works well when I turn on the turning signal. However, when the mirror hit the wall, the mirror fell off from the casing, so I inserted it back but broke some clips. That is why there is a gap between the casing and base. I believe the clips are used to hold the casing and base together. I am not sure if those clips belongs to the casing or the base. If it is part of the casing, then the base is absolutely fine.

I was too careless that night when I reversed my car from a small parking slot and I only focused on the car body but not the mirror :(

You'll be able to remove the indicator strip from your broken case then.

Not sure myself but I think you are right about the clips being part of the case, not the body.

How about take a few photos and post them on here to show us what's broken and what's ok?

I will take some pictures tomorrow and upload them tomorrow. Cheers

I bought a pair (from 2 different sellers on Ebay) for a grand total
of 41 quid delivered. This is so I can remove the silver thief magnets.

Guys, just doing a search and came across this.

When I was cleaning my car the other week I noticed that the casing on mine is cracked, and also the indicator plastic strip is cracked too. It's fairly subtle, but if it isn't too expensive I wouldn't mind replacing the mirror cover and indicator strip.

I didn't realise that when the knob head who clipped my mirror going the other way he'd actually caused damage, it was only when I was washing it that I got close enough to notice it.

Ash, your link seems to be the upper part of the mirror cover... any idea where to get the lower part, and is it easy to fit?

Cheers in advance :)

Little confusing as you say about changing the cover, then you mention lower part which isn't part of the cover, can you be more specific, also 2009 or 2011 onwards?

They're expensive from audi, led strip about £30 or so, the cover is about £90 or more

Sorry Nige, what I mean is, the out part of the mirror casing that faces the front of the car. In the link Ash posted to the Ebay auctions, they're selling that part, but it doesn't have the lower LED part...

If that doesn't make sense I'll take a photo lol :)

Yeah led part is about £30, but probably find cheaper on ebay, but make sure its the correct one.

Just found this. I want to paint just the cover. It has a scratch about 4cm long on it

Do I remove the cover ( don't know how easy this is) run the car with the cover off or should I buy another cover and get it painted and fitted?

Thanks
Phil

Since there is already this topic, I might as well ask it here: is it possible te replace the base of the mirror from an a3 8v? Do they sell them apart? And if they do, what should be the best way to remove it?

hi @CK87 assuming you have an 8v and are replacing like for like, yes you can get the base separately. For the 8P I found Audi were competitive on price compared to Euro or car parts 4 less and the Audi quality was far better.
If you need more help best ask across in the 8V forum.
