Thanks for uploading the pic alex

Thanks everyone for your comments. I'm still breathing. I was in first gear going down a hill. A van was parkes on the side of the road making a delivery. I was in the middle of the road leaving enough space between us. Must have hit ice or something as the car just drifted to the left side of the road. There was Corsa and a van parked up. I tried everything, opposite lock but to no avail. I missed the corsa and hit the o/s rear of the truck. Lucky my airbags didnt go off. I got out and checked for damage, saw what's in the above pics. His truck was alright.only knocked off the rear light which was held on by a plastic bracket. What a sh1t way to start the weekend!

Thank you to everyone for your concern.

Prawn no I dnt think quattro would have help. I don't care what drivetrain you have, you can't control a car on ice.

Was a bit p1ssed off at first but, these things happen. Unfortunately.

so everyone please be careful out there, not just with your own driving, but watch out for stupid people who shouldn't be behind the wheel.

Not long after my accident, a ranger rover didn't stop on a round about and nearly went into the side of me!

Best thing to do is park up till the snow clears.

I'll advise everyone to get home safely and don't drive

Quattro or not

I live in a place where there is Hillary everywhere so ima stay put this weekend

Well it could have been alot worse mr paradox it's just metal and can b fixed at least ur ok. I was out today and the amount of dumb *** drivers out on the road is a hazard in itself use that clutch control ppl will save ur ice cold asses unless u have heated seats like me then ur nice hot asses...

At least your alright! Like everyone's already said metal an be fixed! I'm sure you'll get it sorted easily enough :)

Unlucky dude nobody can do anything on compact ice! If our roads was good enough we would be able to have snow chains and everything would be fine but thats down to skimpy britian.

Hope ya fine mate.

Glad your ok mate, like you said from a 60k rangerover to a £300 banger they will all brake and slide the same,, its a shame the knobs in range rovers dont realise that!!
Are you claiming or doing a DIY?

OMG its very bad. I am sorry for that. I don't think it leads to all that problem which you are saying at the top. Anyhow good luck for the repair of that damage. I hope you will fix it soon

Thanks guys. It will be a ASM/ebay jobbie.l already have a bumper which as luck has it I brought last week. Windscreen can be done by insurance, so j just need a new wing and door. All in a days work

Yeh my old man is a bit daft when it comes to snow, he's one who thinks because he's got a 4x4 , he's laughing! Not a lot you can do on compact sheet ice. I was in a manitou tele forklift today 4x4 with diff locks and massive chunky tyres ( 10 tonne in weight) that was still sliding a bit with weight on forks.

Plenty of spares about paradox , easy enough fix, these things happen.

My daughter slid into a parked car on a bend in her BMW 1 Series. New bumper required on target car and hers needs new o/s wing, headlight and possibly bumper :(. I feel for you mate, not nice at all. The main thing is yourself and my daughter are around to moan about it :)

Sorry to hear about your daughters crash Gary. I hope she can get it sorted without going through insurance as they fees of us young drivers.

Tomorrow ill try take the wing off and knock out the dent with a mallet. I hot a r32 bumper to fit to so hopefully its just a windscreen to get her back together again

Thats unlucky, at least no ones hurt.

Sorry i don't post much but I nearly got taken out on my lunch break, was walking on a quiet side road heard a sound turned round to see an A class merc had gone round a bend and mounted curb where i was a few seconds before and missed a parked car but scraped a garden fence.

Ive got a nearside wing dude, is yours 5dr? if so ive got a nearside front door aswell bro :)

Thanks mate. Yea we're getting it sorted through a mate of mine. He does all my bodywork jobs at work for me. We're just gonna pay for the corsa and her car to get sorted. She's only 21, so if it went through insurance, I dread to think what her renewal quote will be (BMW 118d M Sport)

Good luck with it mate.

Lucky that the A-pillar is part of the door and not the shell on the mk4 marty, means that it could be fixed with scrap yard parts and no paintwork if you get a lucky find in the right colour!

Must be scary having something hit the car at high level though!

Hope your daughter wasn't too shook up Gary, main thing us she is alright and the cars can be sorted

Must be something about the snow that brings out the mechanical side of me last year it snowed I was out fixing my broken clutter h pedal now this year its this.

Anyway update, I opened the passenger for for the first time.look Luke its dented the pillar too!
I'm going to take the wring off and knock it back into shape. I'll get pics up soon. I'm just hoping it can be repaired and its not a write of it it is, I need time suggestions of what to get next. Maybe a mk2 18t daily track car wills be fun.....

if I'm honest it doesn't look too bad.perhaps it can be pulled out as its only a dent.or maybe cut out and reinforced with another pillar. I'm going to see what I cache do today then take it garage Monday for the final verdict

Called the garage today,he said to bring it down. Went to put the bumper back on but the brackets are broken and so is the headlights brackets too.

I've been looking around for parts but haven't bought anything yet as it might come to the worst.

Does any think its repairable?

Hopefully its repairable Marty. Im sure there are a few 8L breaking in classifieds, may be worth a look. :) x

Took it to the garage,he said that it can be repaired but they can't do it. Need to take it to a specialist.

Gutted!

Think I'll have to tale her off road for a while.....

Taking donations

Specialist? Is that because of the A pillar?

Could you not get away with just replacing the window Etc and keep using it or you not wanting to because the piller

O dear, not nice.

Driving on ice is quite easy IMO, just drive very slowly and dont hit the breaks hard.
