Hi,

Been reading loads on this forum lately and have come across some interesting info as far back as 2009 on this forum, there was a guy called Yanmarfan who recommended using cheap semi synthetic 2 stroke oil at 1: 200 ratio to improve lubrication of the engine injectors and turbos etc due to the newer lower sulfur fuels out today. The 2.5tdi engine I have is known to have injector pump problems as mine was reconditioned at 100,000.

What was said by this guy does make a lot of sense to me, just wondering if any members can chip in with there experience of using 2 stroke oil in there motors?

Here is the thread I picked up on via this forum:

Freel2.com - View topic - 2-stroke oil and diesel

Thanks

I've run two stroke in my PD160 Ibiza for about 5 years. V power is a pointless waste of time on diesels, unless you have money to throw away.

Two stroke makes it quieter and slightly more efficient. I changed my cam and had my engine rebuilt at 130k and wear was minimal too, but obviously I don;t have anything to compare that with.

For the price, I'd recommend it

My 2.5Tdi has been run on V Power for a few years.Has 120k now uses no oil starts first time and I doubt whether it will need a rebuild soon

*touches wood....

I had a similar thought once, and at 128k it was all over!

The problems with the VP44 pump on the V6 are usually related to the ecu. The mechanical part of the pump is very reliable and rarely gives trouble. Obviously if you put oil in the fuel it is the mechanical side of the pump which is being affected and as this part is reliable anyway I would have thought this to be a bit of a waste.

haha! - snap! Mine was at 125k when I made a comment on a thread along the lines of "mine seems fine" - the next day I drained out a thrust pad with the oil.

Thought there would of been a few more members who are using 2 stroke in there diesels. Still thinking of trying it especially as I'm running a Shark remap on the 2.5tdi.

Anyone else who recommends using 2 stroke oil?

Use it mate, it does not hurt ! As above, it ******* timing making the engine quieter, increases the cetane rating so you get smoother power and a few more Mpg and it does not dissolve in diesel but it emulsifies which means the pump gets better lubrication. As above, radial piston pumps are very reliable mechanically and usually fail when water is present in the diesel fuel as the parts rust inside...
Been running my diesels on all sorts of fuels:gearbox oil, engine oil, brake fluid, red diesel, etc. With right mixture only thing that happened was the filters clog more often...

I run a little 2T in my 2.5TDi... not sure if it makes much difference or just placebo to be honest.
Iv also run a few tanks of V-Power Diesel - the car seems a little quicker to respond, but agan - not sure if its just placebo!

A lot of people use 2 stroke in diesels, it helps with upper cylinder lubrication. It doesn't have to be anything special, after all, any 2 stroke you add is a bonus compared to just using the normal oil. You do need to be a bit careful with DPF equipped cars though.

A drop of this helps out too

Millers Oils Diesel Power Ecomax

Cheers

Try using Rhino Diesel, it principally is a cetane additive. Add it to normal diesel and you avoid the tax at the pump on V power and get 10% mpg and 10% more power and a whole host of other cleaning benefits. It cleans up injectors and quietens down engines. I know because i use it on VW 2.5tdi T4 and my Audi 1.9tdi. I've also used shell racing M 2 stroke in the past and thats not so obvious if it helps and i dont bother now. Rhino diesel, once the initial dosing phases have been observed, is 1ml per litre so very small amounts. Look on the t4 forum.

That's a new one on me tbs, sounds good I may give it a try. Also thanks for the replies on the 2 stroke oil.

I'm interested in trying 2 stroke oil in my 1.9 tdi engine,

I've just filled my tank, 70 litres I think is a full tank I think

How much 2 stroke oil should I add to my tank?

1:200 ratio. Use a third of a litre of 2 stroke oil per 70 litre tank full

Diesel Rhino is a cetane improver, its a lubricator, injector cleaner and water removal agent amonst other things too. It contains anti oxidants ind inhibits corrosion and abrasion and also gives faster warm ups from cold... Im pretty sure 2 stroke cant do all that. Diesel Rhino. Seriously it will work so much better than 2 stroke.
