I've just received all the relavant interior LED's from Trups and the only LED that I can't get to work is the boot one.

I've obviously asked Trups the question via a PM but was hoping to get this sorted tonight as I hate things not working!

Anyway, i've tried a couple of his different LED modules and neither work and I've bent the module they set into this way and that and no luck!

Could something like a fuse knock it out? Nothing else is out it would seem.

Cheers

Make sure the contacts on the plastic plug in bit are actually touching the metal prongs. Trups LEDs are good but do feel that the metal contacts could be a bit thicker / wider and the solder isn't that strong (constructive crytisicm).

Failing that, whack a multimeter and check you are getting a supply. If not then you have a fuse out somewhere. If you have a supply try re-jiggling the led. You can also do a continuity check across the LED board on both + and -

Have you shut your boot locked the car and unlocked it to see if that does any think? if i leave my boot open to long the light seems to time out and goes off untill i shut the boot and reopen the car again.

Have you tried unplugging the light unit itself and swapping it for one of the other interior lights that you know for sure works?

Right, i'm still not up and running but i'm getting there. As Jameze suggested I swapped a footwell light with the boot one and it works so it must be the LED module. Try another LED module I think

On close inspection of the plastic module the LED fits into it looks like i've bent the metal connector sections so much that they've snapped away from the body on one side! That'll teach me for trying to get it to work in the freekin' dark.

So...a new plastic boot light module (assume it's the same as the footwell lights?) is needed unless I can repair this one. Any idea how much one is and a part number?

Silly question but as LED's only work one way round have you tried to connect the other way round ?

Good idea coxy. I may end up doing that.

Thanks

I had the same problem at the weekend with my boot leds not working. The 2 I bought both work in the glove box but neither work in the boot but the oem lights are fine so I still working on the problem. Also the ones I have will only fit in one way as they match the oem light fitting.

I expect Trups will get back to you...

He is a very busy chap and his LEDs are pretty popular. When I did my A3 a year ago and had a problem he rang me and sorted the issue!

I had a similar problem, was a loose connection in the light housing. Cut the panel connector off and soldered the wires directly to the pins.

Make sure it's connected the right way round.

All fixed! As coxy suggested above, i've soldered the wires direct to the pins on the light module so will avoid paying for another module. I may end up doing the footwells like this as well to stop any connection issues I may get but hopefully i'll be ok.

The LED bulbs all work a treat so can recommend getting Trups to give you a price to kit out your interior lighting. I wasn't sure about it to start with but I must confess that they are nice and bright and I think it brings the interior up to date. I did the footwells, front and rear ceiling lights (including map lights), vanity lights, glove box light and boot light.

Thanks all for your help.

Where did you buy them from? My boot LED is the only solution so far that works in the 8P boot.

Thanks
Trups

Got them on ebay from Ireland like I said these work ok in glove box but no joy in boot here's some pics Lights 001 Lights 002 AY58 003 In the first pic oem light on top led spec bottom

My boot light is £7 and £1.85 postage and will go nicely into the OEM light and will work.

the only thing i can think is sell that spare lamp onto someone and buy the one i have.

if you had to buy 4 pairs of these on a 5dr car for the boot, glove, front footwells and 4 puddles that would get pricey. you can buy my whole 5dr kit for cars with light pack for £59 posted to the uk or NI.

Trups
Not debating the fact that yours are cheaper, only the claim that yours are the only solution that works ;)

Lots of things are different in South Africa. Mainly the friggin weather !!!
So, second post in a row that you've referenced my country of origin as being relevant somehow without actually commenting on what I've actually written. Feel free to share with the class why you think the fact that I'm South African has ANYTHING at all to do with either my opinion or the technical aspects of my post. :whistle2:

The ones you linked are from ireland, the ones SPRATAN91 got are from ireland, what are the chances they could be the same seller or supplier? seems like it could be a hit and miss with them.?

:)

Holy thread resurrection :D

The boot light on my 8P3 is ultra dim and useless, are the LED ones like unleashing the righteous light of the lord in the boot?

I don't want to be doing no rewiring though fella, was looking for a straight swap, my car only has one light in it...
