hi mate, I did get it sorted in the end , I replaced the relay on top of the heater motor blower unit itself http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Audi-A6-C6-Blower-Motor-Control-part-no-4F0820521-/00/s/MTIwMFgxNjAw/z/vIoAAMXQIrFSJ1xu/$T2eC16h,!yYFI,5!eVWgBSJ1)vE2Pw~~60_58.JPG
I have got one of these relays if you need 1, as I had to replace the full heater in the end, as the fan in mine worked loose ??????, but it did work ok with the new relay in till the fan gave up the ghost. so the new heater had a relay fitted, so I got one going spear if you need it, £15 and its yours, drop me a line if so
any further help needed just ask and good luck!!

Hi chap,

thanks for replying I'm now encouraged I will be able to get the thing fixed. Your offer of a part would be ideal how do you want to do this I can send you cash via PayPal?

Do you have any tips for a novice on getting the repair done?

let me know how you would like to get this cash for the part please and we can sort this out?

thanks

dave

Hi pal, PayPal would be fine, I have never used it for anything other than ebay tho, so you'll have to guide me through the proses,
As for your heater, it's not that big of a job, unless you need a compleat new 1 but that's unlikely,
What's yours doing ( or not as the case may be) coz I don't want to sell you this part and it be the wrong bit, I'm not in the proses of ripping people off lol,

OK here goes,

when the car is cold the fan works well heat or cold no problem. However when the car is hot or the outside temp is hot the fan will not work. But at some point the fan may decide to start to work again without any interference from me. It doesn't work on auto or any fan speed at all?

it sounded like your problem when I read the thread does that sound like your issues?
dave

Oh yes ,that's sounds just the same as mine was , well I ain't no audi mechanic, but I think it's your relay / resister acting up, I replaced mine and it worked ok until the fan itself went pop,
Don't think it's your fan playing up coz it works ok when cold, so it's probly the relay, sopose it's only gona cost you £15 to find out anyway lol,
Ok if you still want to have the relay off me it's no prob, tell me how to do PayPal and I'll sort if our for you,

OK if you PM me your email address I'll get the cash over to you now. As you have a PayPal account for eBay it should simply show as a credit to your PayPal account.

That should be it, famous last words!

A final update on the fan motor. Firstly thanks to saxonblue for the resistor unit I managed to get it replaced but it didn't fix the problem. I decided to replace the fan as VCDS told me it had an open short. Managed to get one trade and with the help of youtube found a very helpful polish (i think) man who shows how to remove the unit. I would encourage anybody to have a go at this as I managed to do it and I'm not great with spanners. I now have full power aircon fan at any time. The guy in the parts department did say the fan motor is a common problem on the a6. After being told the price of a new resistor jobbie, I would say change the fan first its cheaper! Anybody want to ask any questions please drop me a PM and ill do what I can to help
