I've read the a4 mod site on how to strip the headlights and it says its not as easy as putting them in oven to separate them.
Now I only want to blacken the long chrome bit at the inside front of the headlight, not bothered about blackening the rest.
My question is, why can't I just put them in the oven to separate the lens?
I done this with my Fabia vrs headlights with no problem at all. 70c for 10mins done the job perfectly.
Can I just pop them in the oven????

I did mine using the oven but it is an in/out job and took me a couple of hours for one unit......not easy at all.

I have a set already done sat in my garage that i no longer need, if you are interested in making me a offer on them pm me your email address i'll send you some pictures

Thank you for the offer ;)
But one of the reasons i'm gonna do it is because I'm bored.
I done them on my fabia and it was easy enough to do so lets hope these are easy.

I could be interested in them if they are the right price ;-)

I will put them in the classified's over the next couple of days with some pictures so as not to turn this into a fir sale thread, feel free to pm me a offer on them if you wish.

Well I done this mod today.

Let's just say it's a patients testing mod!!
In the oven doesn't work too well on these lights not like my vrs ones anyway.
No pics as yet, too dark.

Looks awesome though.

I've been tempted by this mod, especially since I think mine could do with being resealed anyway as there's condensation in them. But the long process always makes me just think I'll be lazy and get laminx.

Can't wait for the pics though.

The oven route is slow but allows the most control in terms of doing minimal damage to the casing.......I love mine now

know this may appear to be a really stupid question but
for those who have done this what paint have you used?.
i assume it would need to be a higher temp stuff not sure where to source?.
thats working on the idea that its just a primer then paint before re-assembly.

Just goto your local car shop and get a tin of Matt/ satin or gloss black
key the area u want to paint and mask off any u don't want painting
apply 2 good coats and that should do tbh

Shouldn't need to prime etc, you would if it was a bumper or grille etc but it will be fine
hycote or plasti-coat will do mate

I used matt black this time round.
Last time (vrs) I used satin black then laquerd.
Was going to plastidip them but thought I might have ripped the rubber while putting the chrome back into the lense.
I also sandblasted mine in work instead of sanding, only cause I could.

Anyway not the best pics in this miserable weather. Cars dirty and crap light.
