Stacey's Belated Yo Yo Build Thread

You planning on getting the manifold ceramic coated or at least wrap it? gonna be a lot of heat there... looks good though dude... well jell... :)

<tuffty/>

Cheers mate..... think you've been watching the only is Essex to much lol ;)

If was going to do it I would get it coated but don't think can warrant it at the mo :(

But in doing so do you think it could raise egts to much? Will have to ask bill how James was on egt's

Looking awesome. Can't you use a bit of fire sleeve on the turn drain? Have you seen the 034 kits?

Thanks mate :)

Will have a butch when get a min, probably have seen it but looked at so many kits and parts now I don't know my **** from my elbow lol

EGT's should be ok... its more to protect the stuff around it... appreciate why you would be concerned about EGT's but tbh I doubt they will be an issue on the hardware you have... I haven't got much past 750 degrees (probe in DP remember) myself yet... and yours should be more efficient than my setup..

Sounds like you're going for hard lines though.

Cheers for the replys guys....the seed has now been planted and am now seriously considering and looking into ceramic coating :)

Have been looking around and can only seem to find 2 company's that do plasma ceramic coating which is the type which is more durable and handles the higher heat rating

The obvious one being zircotec and woof is the other company which as far as can see use's the same process's but is apparently cheaper

http://www.zircotec.com/page/home/1

http://www.woof-tmt.com/what-is-it

Anyone got any experiance or know much of these?

Cheers

zircotec i use.. plasma sprayed zirconium - very good. their prices have risen a lot these past few years since I first started using them.
not heard of woof-tmt myself tho

shotblast the component and plasma spray the zirconium on it.

my manifold/DP are zirconium flame sprayed. done years ago and still mint.

Have emailed both for prices for mani, turbo, wastegate, and about 2.5 foot of 3' for downpipe as well as 1.5 foot of 1.75' for wastegate to downpipe?

If I do go ahead bill would you be happy to send off the first part of the downpipe when you make it?

Is there anywhere in particular that you buy your banjo fittings and stainless hard pipe from for the lines? Pressume I will need to buy a hand pipe bender?

Cheers

Forgot to say that woof does most of they're work for the oil industry and don't really do a lot on cars although they happily do so, it's not they're main area of interest

He also said that the finish is a bit rough and recommended grey or black rather than white as gets quite dirty easily

the white zircotec is said by them to be the most durable to temps, and the coloured ones not so much. Whether this is the same for the other guys I dont know.

it is rough finish.. sand paper abrasive.. hard as nails
and yes it marks like a mofo..

Have got quotes from both zircotec and woof, there's a reasonable amount difference between them price wise so will obviously go with the cheaper one which was woof, which turns out to be an old name or something as they must have been taken over and now be part of unisurf engineering as they're name on the quote is from unisurf but they call it woof thermal coating in the invoice

I did speak to them on the phone and the process's and what the coating is rated to is the same specs as zircotec so seemed like a no brainer

I have fallen in love with the s3 all over again

She had been neglected cosmetically for some time, I got her washed by the local car wash a couple of days ago which is the first time it's been cleaned since AITP all bar a quick jet wash as Bedford autodrome!

A couple of pics including the new plate

Always liked your car stacey, it's like all the others, apart from the bigger turbo, then you start looking over it and notice lots of other little bits that don't stand out at first, like the GC topmounts and other little bits that make the difference :)

Cheers for all the kind words guys really do appriciate it

I should set myself another New Years resolution of making sure I keep it clean as makes me smile when I look at it again, it must have been without a soapy wash for 5 months or more lol

Been looking at various cat cam offerings over the last few weeks and these are the few that i'm considering (although am leaning towards some more than others

3651's

bobq custom grinds... unknown spec surely? bobq has disappeared off the face of the tinterweb for some time now
Catcams of my badgerwagen spec and of equivalent more "racey" style but will have lumpy idle but high top end gains.. for some low end losses... moved power up top where a larger frame turbo is working at its best remember..

are the above figures on a stock 1.8 or a 2.0 like your own? Remember that displacement increases 'tame' the effects of a lairy cam too, so the more lairy cam on the larger engine may well behave as well on the road as the less lairy cam on a 1.8, whilst still giving the top end gains.

Not looking to go to lairy as don't want to loose to much low down....although I know it's always a trade off

Had been mainly leaning towards the 3658's but the custom ones also look very nice and may be worth trying to keep some down the lower end of the scale even if have to sacrifice a little up top compared to some grinds...it's all a balancing act I suppose ;)

Will email the quotes over when am home later

Spec pulled straight off of the thread ;)

Engine: 2008cc 1.8T
AEB head- no porting
Various CAT cams
Hypertune intake mani
70mm Mustang TB
Pag Parts cast V-band mani
Tial 38mm v-band wastegate
GT3071R v-band turbo
3" downpipe
Magnaflow muffler
Stand alone management
Test done on Superflow 901 engine dyno
Intake air temp controlled by large liquid/air intercooler
93 octane pump gas
Safe street tune
20 psi

Test pull from 2000 to 8000rpm

20psi 93 octane pump gas with a safe street tune. 300RPM/sec

You can see the point where the boost hits 20psi and the wastegate takes over where the curve flattens out at 3700rpm

What you gonna rev to stacey??
go 3658 if your gonna rev high

thats a hell of a gain aswell for a 20psi tune.

On vortex alot of the guys claim they regain the bottom end power through more timing, so all might not be lost.

True true I'm sure bill will be able to perk it up with timing and will still be livelier than I'm used to down the bottom end of the rev range anyhows as will be going from 1825ish cc @ 8.5cr to 2008cc @ 9.5ish cr ;)

Does seen like a very good gain on 20psi....hadn't really taken that into account

Not sure how high will be revving? Suppose will be what bill and I feel comfortable with, what would you suggest bill? 8000?

will see how well the overall flow is and how the power peak is delivered.. but 8k is a reasonable guess.. my ibiza's 8800rpm limited but not peaked power !!

I got some 3658's in my 2.0 with precision 6262 turbo. Will see how they do when I get it running.

There some 3652's on vw vortex up for grabs in the forced induction section.

Like you say won't really know till the time although wont be like badger wagen? ;)

Suppose a lot of the set up will be tailered for top end though with cams and .82ar housing?

What do you reconmend on hydro's? some on vortex touching 9k but that sounds a bit to high?

You get my emails?

Yeah have been really scouring the vortex classifieds lately and had seen them but to be honest the 3652's i wouldn't wan't to be putting in my car as there is so much losses throughout the range and only seems to come alive until right up the top of the rev range

The 3658's seem to be a really good combo which iirc is 3652 inlet cam and the smaller 3651 exhaust cam, didn't you end up with half a set of cat cams due to one being lost?

The vortex classifieds are awesome aren't they. So many bargains to be had.

Considered cams for mine but I think it'd be a waste on a puny GT2871.

Have you upfraded the valvetrain stace i cant remember?
8500 is said to be the safe max for uprated valves, springs etc. Which is pretty high. But like bill says it depends where power peaks and iif its worth it. What does the lcr bill did similar to this look like on a graph? I know it was impressive thats fo sho.

I originally bought those 3652's but the guy messed up with the address and they didnt make it to me. He refunded me, I bought another set with an AEB head, then the inlet got lost, I got refunded by courier and bought the billet 58's :)

My whole engine has been built from Vortex and Audizine deals :) - except block and pistons.
I got a FSI crank for $80, some people just have no idea and its my duty to pray on the weak LOL

Yeah am constantly scouring the classifieds now, especially now I've got the US repackaging account so can get loads of odds and ends sent there for reasonable cost then they sling it all in one package and send it over to me when I'm ready ;)

I reckon you will definately see a benefit from a drop in inlet cam, they've seen pretty good gains with just the inlet cam as I think the stock exhaust is already pretty good :)

Yeah have got ferrea valves and valve springs so should hopefully help to rev higher, iirc James Leon they revved to 7800 but don't hold me to that ;)

If I manage to get on to my laptop later I will post up a plot of his car

****** couriers! Sounds like you had a right nightmare, but at least got there in the end and reckon you've ended up with a lot better cam for it ;)

I really wish I had bothered looking on vortex classifieds sooner as probably would have saved some doh and could have got some lovely kit, sounds like you've done very well out of it

stock stroke on badgerwagen, just larger bore

Yours is a 83mm 1.9 iirc Bill?

Little update as had some free time today ;)

First off, turned a sleeve for the maf to bring it up to 4 inch, inline with the size of the tip

Was a bit limited for materials but got creative

62BED0C8-025C-4159-8259-7C08F4AF225B-6502-0000084A02E57730.jpg

Turned it down to size, bored it out, followed by pushing it on with the press (forgot to get pics)

Finished Maf

Then went onto the oil filter housing which was in a rather sorry looking state with loads of corrosion

6388B9D0-22E0-445B-A46B-C87429574231-6502-0000084A0C4A1CCE.jpg

Cleaned as much up as possible with a rottary wire brush but still didn't look to good

I eventually want to run oil pressure and oil temp gauges and there was only one spare port, so drilled and tapped another M10 fine thread into the other position

I drilled right through to the center as this is from what i can make out after the cooler so will get more accurate temp reading there and after all the oem sensor goes through to the center where as the other spare bung goes through to the outer part of the filter
