Hello asn

i have audi convert think its number 2 see pic

I am thinking of replacing with this unit
RNS E Audi A3 S3 Navigation Media Chrome Satnav DVD 2012 Map | eBay

is this the correct unit for my car ?
will my bury kit work with this ?
will my aux plug in still work?
will the stearing wheel controls have more function? ( only volume one the right works not functions )
is this unit worth it ?
Is the nav software any good ?

Yes thats an A3 version.

Your problem is the antenna system for radio is different for the rns-e so you may get degraded reception.

To fix this there is a mod for antenna amps, looms, extension cables etc to fit which gets rid of any errors & gives you optimal reception.

As long as the bury kit has the approperiate connections, which going by the fact you have the concert 2+, then should be ok if fitted/coded correctly.

Auxin will work, but only when its been coded & rewired to a new connector for rns-e as not same as the concert.

The controls will stay the same, as in volume up/down, the left selector dial will flick the stations, tracks etc, mode only works when bt is fitted, so effectively should be the same unless you want bt aswell, with a minor addition of the nav directions repeated when pressing left scroll button in when on a route.

IMHO ist the best unit to fit as it works with everything else flawlessly & oem look imho cant be beaten.

I use nav software everyday & for me its perfectly good enough & I goto different locations daily in all areas without any hiccups thus far.

You could also consider installing the sds variant of which I can supply/fit, I can make sure all your concerns above are taken care of & you're not far from me next week tbh mate, will be in salford for a few days if interested, send me a PM if interested

just don't wanna shell out that sort of money then it will not work with aux and having to cut lumes up its nuts.
Ideally I thought it was plug and play would work with
aux
bury
steering controls
sat nav
& all other bits straight out the box but I know I need Bluetooth if I want my phone to work with it and its about and extra £100

The work is all factory when finished, no looms are cut up as such mate & the audi bt is not an extra £100 I'm afraid or are you referring to an additional bt addon to the bury being £100?

Lee, I used that guy for my unit. He's very good to deal with. For some reason, it wouldn't allow my paypal payment to go through as it said I couldn't use that payment method for that item. I contacted him and said it sounded a bit dodgy and I wanted to leave it. He said, send me your address, I'll send you the unit BEFORE YOU PAY ANYTHING, and if you're happy, send me the money as a gift with paypal. How many sellers would do that?

It pretty much is all plug&play, the steering controls will work without additional coding, the radio reception is satisfactory, for sat nav, you could buy a gps antenna cheap on ebay and install it somewhere inside the car..

It all comes down to where you use the radio, some are not satisfactory at all & you end up with static, if you're constantly in a city, then its probably fine, but I can assure you most of my clients who experience this, within 5 minutes say, swap it out, as even once hearing the radio like this. annoys them.

So he should be made aware of the pifalls beforehand of such upgrades, as allot of installers dont say squat until after its been fitted, leaving the client in a situation where the units fitted already & no choice but to stay as is or the additional cost.

I wish I live somewhere near you, beacuse I retrofitted a Lithuaninan RNS-e in my S3, and I'm satisfied with the reception but if I had an expert like you I would definitely like it to be perfect and that is connected with the antenna in the rear window, and that you do all the necessary coding so there aren't any faults/errors when connected to VCDS.. :/
Yesterday I even had a slight problem with my RNS-e but this is for another thread, it goes beyond this subject..

i worked in halfrauds many moons ago and when we used to upgrade vw / audi raidos ppl did complain about signal so we fitted signal boosters ( by auto leads ) and it was a little metal thing that looked like a male connection for radio but was spliced in to the permanent live. Is this the same sort of thing. ?

No offence gazza, but I wouldnt do this & only person who would offer this imho, is someone who loses nothing if you dont pay, in other words it cost them nothing in the 1st place or very very little, sounds rather dodgy doesnt it.

The audi system isnt that cheap, but it integrates well with the other systems.

Nothing like that mate, its the proper audi system fitted as per factory to make rns fully compatible with antenna system.

be careful doing this , sending as a gift removes the pay pal protection , if there is a problem with purchase pay pal will not return your money as it was a gift not a transaction .

Would hate the thought it was out if someone's pride and joy. You would prob have a broken window in 6 months after delivery

Thats the issue, they sell you a unit & potentially it could go missing later, also after 45 days the paypal claim period is over, so if a fault arises after this, warranty could be obsolete, as some of my clients found out, so you're goosed.
