after a couple cuts on my hands i managed to unplug my OEM halogen headlamps on my audi a3 2006 8P2 sportback whilst they are still attached to the car, i then plugged in my new OEM single xenon headlamps which i have recently bought, as soon as i plugged them in and started up my car and then turned the light switch on, the headlamps started flashing like a strobe light, i then turned them off and back on it did the same, luckily i havnt taken the bumper off and the old lights out so i just plugged them back in and they worked fine,

the question is what do i need to do to fix this coding ?? if so what needs to be changed on what section whilst using vcds ?

and are there any vcds users near derby/midlands area ??

i would really appreciate it if you could help as i was supposed to fit these on sunday :-(

thankyou

You need to change coding in module 09 to advise xenons are fitted.

sorry to sound like a dunce, im really new to this coding stuff, is this all i would have to tell the person who is coding it for me ?
or is there a section of the ecu that needs to opened up to access module 09 then select xenons fitted ? i thought it was just plug it in and im driving around with amazing visibility :(

Its a 10 pin connector for pnp, but coding is required to tell it whats fitted, so it reads the correct loads for the headlights & doesnt strobe/warn on dis.

Just get someone who knows what they're doing & you should be fine, you could also pop upto N8 in salford to code them.

yes mate they have the 10 pin connectors

ive found a guy on my door step he said he can code it for me aslong as i know what module needs to be changed i said 09 he said sounds easy he's a European car specialist, if not i think ill probably organise a trip to Salford if N8 is ok with it

Well I will be with N8 from thursday anyway if you can wait until then & we can make sure its done correctly.

Hi mate, don't bother fixing them, simply crank up the stereo and have a disco!!!!

Not very helpful admittedly but I thought it might be a bit funny - hope you get them sorted.

should be able to sort it out will upload few pics on this thread after its all done (if its done)

dont know why i keep buying items to fit when i know im going to buy a used 2009-2010 8P3 S3 early next year

i dont think it will be that soon as im working and also moving house and also selling one of my businesses and dont forget probably finding time to fit these lights :/, but i think i should get the coding done then fit the lights as it seems an easier option to do, will my halogen lights still work even though the car will be coded to use xenon lights ?

Good call on the drinks. Also good choice on the S3. Looking for one myself in around 6 months. Hopefully manage to get a nice 2011/12 black edition with lots of extras!!!

bit pricey at the moment 16K up but an S3 compared to an edition 35 golf... its quattro all the way i think plus im one of those guys who enjoys putting the window down and hearing a forge dump valve going off haha

just bought a house so s3 will wait atleast a year, cant wait for the new one to come out so i can get the 8P3 price should drop a little when im ready to buy one

i dont see why they shouldn't work is it because the xenon lamps require more power or something

I assume that, because there is a choice in VCDS between xenon and halogen, then the correct coding for each would be necessary. Anything other than that would show a fault on the DIS.

Might be wrong but it could be something to do with the ecu expecting self-levelling information from the sensors that are required for xenons ?

i dont think i have self levelling module on my car im doing the easy fit headlamps with the easy way, ill jus wait and let a professional do the work and also let them have the car for a couple days

I merely made the point that, in answer to you question in post #9, I didn't think that halogens would work ok when the ecu was coded for xenons without showing a fault on the DIS.

Why don't you just try it and see ? And then let us all know.

I think the simple answer to the question in your very first post i.e. why are they flashing on and off, could be because they were looking for some info. from the ecu that they couldn't get !

sorry mike i understand what you are saying now i dont mind driving with the error on the DIS for a few days but obviously would need the lights to work but if i have it coded and the lights completely stop im in trouble, ive located 2 places in burton on trent where i live with VCDS who can code the car for me and also fit the lamps so i just need to find time to get the work done, ill have to leave the car there for 2 days i will be driving my second car (vw 2005 lupo 999cc) its not the same lol

2 days to do that job, are you kidding me?

Or come to us & give it up for a few hours, the car that is, before any smart **** remarks lol.

How did they fit auto-level sensors and washers ?
